That's sad news. I spent my mis-spent childhood and youth watching him on TV. RIP.

How sad to hear this. I enjoyed Hi-De-Hi, loved every moment of the series. May Paul rest in peace.

Also I remember Simon Caldwell who played Jeffrey Fairbrother in Hi-De-Hi. I was shocked to hear that Simon died quite young of cancer years ago. He was just 45 years old.

R.I.P. Paul Shane. I remember seeing him in Hi-de-Hi Spirits in Bournemouth Pier Theatre.

A lovely quote from The Guardian newspaper:

Linda Kremer, the actor's agent for 15 years, said: "Paul Shane was a consummate professional, a true gentleman, a good friend, and a joy to work with.
"He didn't suffer fools, always maintained his sense of humour, never stinted on the time he gave to his fans. He lightened my life and I'll miss him enormously."

I couldn't stand Hi-De-Hi or You Rang...but...did panto with Paul Shane many years ago and discovered what a naturally hilarious person he was, as well as being incredibly warm and generous. A fabulous talent and a lovely bloke, this is very sad news.

    It's actually Simon Cadell.

    RIP, Mr McShane.

Just to clarify, Paul McShane - the footballer - is still with us. Paul Shane - the actor - is no more.

I seen Paul Shane in a variety show in 2006 at Skegness which we loved and he wasn't said to be well then.

I've heard he was a nice guy from numerous sources, would give you a lift back home from the theatre if you were going in the same direction (like back up north). I do have to say I did think his delivery was a bit wooden at times, but then I guess it was also his trademark.

Was just watching it last week for the 1000th time too.

    Still makes me chuckle.

Cannot help but smile at that! :)

I have to say I thought he was older than 72. Always sad to hear another star of his era shuffling off this mortal coil.
