Iam torn between the HTC One or the S4. As I live in a rural area signal reception is a big factor for me. I have tried a friend's HTC and it seems very good at holding on to a signal. From my past experience Samsungs have not been that great for reception. Is this still the case for the SGS4 ?

Bit of both really - if you have a poor signal a good phone will do more with it than poor one.
Ahh, ok, thanks
Places where I would get zero reception with the SGS4 in my house I now get very good signal with the HTC One.
Lucan,
Which phone out of the i5, htc one and SG4 is your PERSONAL favourite?
Please dont attack Lucans answer. Just curious
I used to have a Note 2 and new the signal on that was really good. It seemed that the S4 wasnt quite as good so was thinking of an exchange. I started to use a network signal info app that logged the RX level so I could monitor it more. I did the same on an S3 with an EE SIM in. I found that the S4 was slightly better or the same as the S3, never worse. I do think though, that the signal 'bars' on the notification bar arnt as accurate as they could be. Its sometimes showing lower than it is on the app I downloaded, and even when there are no bars but G or H is still there, i can make perfectly clear calls.
Good enough for me
Exactly.
And with 3G, it dont matter how many bars there is, the call quality will be the same. Just the download speed will be slower the further away you are from the tower.
HTC One.
I have the 5 for another 9 months (company phone) but I'm due an upgrade this summer on my personal line.. So unless something better comes out I'm likely to go with the HTC, surpising seeing if you asked me 6 months ago.. I doubt I would have even looked at an HTC.
Why? For all the reasons that people say on here. Great to hold and use, fast, great recording, great sound playback, wears well and seems like it will still look fresh at the end of your contract. Best compromise of all the current flagship phones in a great body.
At this stage i would'nt go for an iPhone 5.
This upcoming iOS7 has to be game changing and the new iPhone has to be a good bit more than just a spec upgrade to make me buy one.
The S4 just isn't what I hoped for, hate the feel, was jerky at times, didn't seem that powerful and just seem to lack something. Similar thoughts in the office with over half being returned for HTCs, Sonys, iPhones and even the boss returning it for a... NOKIA! (8 phones)
