What I don't understand is, on certain aspects of the case, the judge mentioned that 2 of his victims was 16 years old & consented to the sex. I was curious to why the Judge bought that up, yes there was the drug taking, but I didn't think that a Rock star had to follow the same laws as an authority figure like a teacher, when having sex with someone under 18.

Possibly to reiterate the influence he had on vulnerable and impressionable young people? And at that possibly impressionable young adults.

I did not see most of the other comments given by the judge, I read the first page, and could not go on. Just felt sick, near enough was, to think I played gigs, guy i knew interviewed them for a rock fanzine and I went along, socialised with him and the band on two occasions when i was around 17/18 before they got big..

I am fortunate I never got caught up in seeking fame and etc. I did not really like that stuff, local band scene fine for hobby..you get
    what I mean..meh!

Its just unbearable, I hope the poor babies recover and get the help they need, if and when they need it. They are all sub human to me, Watkins, all the mothers that partook of this, inhumane, perverted criminals.

I can't find the words for it.

I hope all guilty parties are kept in jail for the times set. I hope Watkins is put in solitary, if not he wont last long.

I really cant post anymore or i might be banned from DS, I cant express myself within the terms.

    I was wondering the same:confused:

Earlier in this thread there are links to the judge's speach which gives considerable detail but was not published by the media (for once they were restrained!) as it was to disturbing to be publicised. I assume that the links are still there (unless they have been removed by the mods) together with some other links to forums where his behaviour was discussed several years ago.

There's no way he won't be, and he's inside for 20 years minimum. Can you imagine twenty years of utter isolation?

Curiosity and the desire to learn? It is a dramatic public case, and no odder wanting to know the full facts than about trains or the royal family or Marie Antoinette. Curiosity is a powerful human drive, and vital for our continued existence, so let's not belittle it.

Sex offenders don't live in utter isolation. They associate with each other. There has been dismay from time to time when they are found to be swapping court documents (like the judges comments linked on this thread) for mutual entertainment. Other than that, I don't think they have a lot of fun. They are absolutely at the bottom of the prison pecking order, and live in constant fear of assault, or at least of having possessions and food tampered with.

I had mixed and not very comfortable feelings when I read about Rose West's experiences in prison. She threw herself into needlework and filled her cell with knitting, sewing and crocheted goods. Then she came back one day and found that every single piece had been destroyed.

What I want to know is, why the hell come on a thread about a case, the detail of which you don't want to know.......or maybe you really do don't you? Otherwise, why else would you open it to read?

I wonder how true this reported quote of Watkins after being sentenced is.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ian-watkins-says-go-down-2951478

Looks like two other mothers are already in the frame for similar to the sentenced aiders-and-abettors.

It sounds about right. I don't think in his own mind he has done anything that awful, so he probably thinks history will be kind to him.

Oh dear! A second pair of mothers are being accused of offering up their babies for abuse.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ian-watkins-police-investigating-two-2951622

i can't wrap my mind around this. Disgusting.

As for the mother's identities, I think everyone knows the women involved names.

I've just read the last two pages, and honestly Im gone beyond the point of feeling sick. I don't even know how to think or feel. I've felt like crying and been in utter disbelief. I don't know what to say.

I don't, and I'd guess the vast majority of people don't. Most people don't go so far as to search for such details.

It's like a neverending nightmare. I can't process it properly at all when it comes to the mothers willingly offering up their children.

Rock stars don't. When the judge talked about the two 16 year olds, I'm pretty sure he was referring to the charges of taking indecent photos of children. Watkins videoed his encounter with the 16 year olds. The sexual acts were lawful, but recording them wasn't. A child for the purposes of the law on indecent images is anyone under 18.

That goes for me as well. Almost everyone who knows the names has obviously actively sought out the information. Such people should be ashamed of themselves. It is unfortunate that the resources are not available for the authorities to go after every last person who has been putting those names out there.

She was totally under his control and as such, not fully in control of her mental faculties. This can happen when someone comes into contact with a psychopath with extreme tastes and high charisma.

That does not excuse her from what she did as she had a choice to say "no". She still knew right from wrong.

Ian Brady & Myra Hindley spring to mind.

I have to admit that I used to quite fancy Watkins. I'm 5 years older than him.

When this news item first broke I read the story I was utterly go smacked at the depravity and call me naive but I didn't know people could or would or can do such things to such young children. I could barely read it, was so disturbing. The mothers beggar belief. Horrendous and heinous crimes

I didn't search for them particularly, I went on the Crown Court website to look when the trial started and their names were there in plain sight.

That's sad. I don't understand what makes some criminals think they are on a superior moral ground to others... If they had any sense of morality they wouldn't be in prison in the first place.

Nor do I and frankly I'm not interested in knowing who these disgusting human beings are.

Interesting article from a wrongly-convicted man who spent years in prison. Watkins will be a 'God' to some in prison, but will also be at major risk from others.

Being in a moderately successful band versus being the most reviled sex offender in the country? I'm pretty sure a lot more people now know him for the latter rather than the former.
