Haven't got a clue; I just use the stuff that came with the PC. In my ignorance I thought that one needed Adobe to open pdfs because that is the reader that the bank web sites tell me that I need.
Foxit would not open a pdf from a bank or mobile phone co. Message said that the file could not be downloaded. By the way, I had not difficulty in opening pdfs until (from memory) version 10 of Adobe.
there must be some protection on the files, some kind of account security ... might be security software settings .... have you tried other web browsers? some account security measures could stop downloads in 1 or more browser

'fraid I wouln't know how to use other web browsers!
There is a known problem with Adobe X and IE when trying to open pdf files on a secure (https) website. The solution is: Internet Options/Advanced tab/Security, uncheck 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk'.

Do you mean when you click on a link for a PDF it does not open or when you download a PDF you can't open it?
Windows Visa and the latest pdf reader.
The link doesn't open or on some web sites it opens a blank page.
Which PDF reader?
Adobe Reader X
Absolutely nothing; not even a message.
The problem seems to be with only certain web sites e.g. Mobile phone accounts, Bank Accounts.

Another vote for Foxit

Set it to open pdf in your web browser.
Untick any optional programs/toolbars etc. that it may want you to install
This one is my recommendation as well

Scrub that. Managed to open a pdf from a mobile phone site using Google Chrome. Not bad for an olden eh? Will have to have a lie down now.
Thanks for everyone's help and happy new year.
If they're blank, right-click the link and save target as, then double-click, opens in Adobe Reader.
Might have been running IE in no add-ons mode - happens frequently, because the big 'e' is there and no-one reads the description.
Foxit is a problem waiting to happen IMHO, just like FF sadly.
Cue flames......:p
Why do you think that?
Excellent stuff. That did the trick!
