    Very sad news.

I'm very nostalgic about movies from the pre-CGI era. Pretty much all my favourites were made without it.

And an era dies with him.

Sad day. This man's special effects and creatures roamed my childhood imagination mercilessly. I'll always cherish that.

Sad. Was just the other day reading the feature in the current Sci Fi Now edition. A legend and always loved his stuff, particularly Jason and the Argonauts.

    RIP.

I can still remember the first time I saw Jason and the Argonauts as a kid and being completely swept away by it.

Ray added a unique piece of magic to cinema history and some iconic moments. May he rest in peace.

This is one piece of news I was praying would never happen. Ray is an absolute genius and without his pioneering work in the early days the film industry would have been a totally different place. The films he worked on still stand up in today's market of computerised FX and he is probably the one name from behind the camera that everyone knows even if they have never seen his work.

    And a lovely human being.
I saw an interview with somebody who was helped out and guided by him for no other reason than it was a nice thing to do for somebody just starting out. A true gent.

A true talent and a great loss. Always made sure his special effects were just that - special.

His creature work was fantastic of course, and his eerie, whirring ufos in Earth Vs the Flying Saucers still give me chills.
