I know at least some of the awards are voted for by the public, i.e. listeners of Capital, Radio 1, Radio 2 etc.

    Both.

The vast majority is panel voted but Best British Breakthrough is by the public.

This year for the first time (in atleast ages) Best British Single is also going to be panel voted aswell, which is great as that was always the award that was hijacked by boyband fanbases.

According to this old BBC article, referenced on Wiki:
They are voted for by more than 1,000 people, including BPI member companies, DJs, music press, TV presenters, music industry members, lawyers, accountants, promoters and NUS entertainment officers.

Don't know if it's changed in recent years but I doubt it.

How does it look dire??? James Corden is a solid host and the performers are great, like Beyonce and Justin are probably the best male and female performers out at the minute they've also got a mix of bands like Mumford and sons and muse and then great British talent like Emeli Sande. This is probably one of the strongest line ups for a long time!

Good. Wand Erection or the unWanted would have probably been a shoe-in otherwise.

Not always! They tried to do that the year when Will Young won it for Your Game but he still got the vote.

The nominations this year actually look pretty decent.

As far as the international awards go, they basically just award the ones who actually show up.

Anyone who performs gets an award, the brits mean nothing to real music fans.

Hence why Taylor Swift (performing on the night) will win International Female rather than Alicia Keys or Lana Del Rey this year

Think it's ridiculous them taking out Outstanding Contribution this year hopefully it's back next year. There's so many Brit artists that still haven't won that award.

The Brits usually reflect commercial success, wheres the Mercury prize, for eg, is often an award for "The best album that didnt sell much".

Last year they took out International Album, this year they've taken Outstanding contribution and International Breakthrough. Over the years they've taken Pop/Urban/Rock/Dance Act out too. At this rate in ten years time they'll just have one award - Best General Music Act.
