A not-very-promising account of the meeting from the I.T. angle

"Hijacked by ignorant MPs"? Surely not!

Not surprising really since The Government and MPs have always shown a complete lack of understanding whenever they try to tackle internet related issues.

It seems as though the government has summoned representitives of all these companies and have said something along the lines of "you run the internet, fix it!"

Sadly, it just isn't technically possible for them to do that. Nobody can control what gets sent around the world using Torrents, Usenet, IRC, etc. The entertainment industry has tried for over a decade, and they are no closer to solving the problem.

It's hard to see how they could ever eliminate this problem, unfortunately.

IMO They should doing more to stop Pedophiles getting content than trying to block illegal music and film downloading

They are not really interested in anything other than getting the communications bill through parliament and will use any emotive subject to stir up the public and cloud the issue.
