Surprised that Umbrella is 4th! I thought that'd be second after We Found Love.

Also had no idea how many copies S&M had sold.

    The Loud era absolutely slayed.

When Umbrella was released sales were considerably lower in its year of release it only sold little over 500K+ if it were released during the Loud era it would have sailed passed 1m even maybe 2 10 weeks at #1 is a long time so its all contextual :) But in all honesty not comparing on any musical level no one has had this sort of selling power since say The Beatles even Madonna in her hey day was hard pressed to go gold (400k) and i know its all down to context but its a mighty achievement 20m singles 5m albums all in 7 years and in 05 with pon de replay who would have seen that coming.

S&M has sold more copies than I expected. Its airplay here was a bit limited. Indeed, I think Imagine FM started playing it but soon dropped it. It was when I was on holiday in Dublin and heard it quite often on radio there that I got to know it better.

Yeah me too, I was also surprised about California King Bed. Also I thought that Talk That Talk would have had less sales considering it's Rihanna's biggest flop.

I'd say her biggest "flop" was Hard. It didn't even get top 40.

Talk That Talk didn't do that bad. It peaked at #25 in like November 2011, and re-peaked there I think around April 2011, so it charted there twice, and was much bigger than your typical #25 hit, plus it managed that without a music video (which it missed out on due to the featured aritst, Jay-Z, having a baby when the song was out).

I was hearing S&M on the radio all the time when it came out (even Radio 1, despite censoring it, they played the song to death for a couple of months).

However, it was one of those songs that was everywhere on the radio for a couple of months, then practically disappeared. I don't think I've heard S&M anywhere in the past 12 months now.

When it comes to it Hard was her own and her labels fault they releasedd it in the states first the video and song got airplay over her allowing it to chart but as it was rising she released Rude Boy whoch over shadowed it totally and then only after Te Amo did she release hard at which point the song had been around for ages and had no chance of success.

And true mind you Rihanna has such a turnover if every big hit she had was allowed continued airplay we would never quit hearing a song of hers :D

It really shows how singles sales have fired up - 4 of her top 5 selling songs were released in the last 2 years and its not like her older material is much more unpopular, there will have been continued slow sales for a long time after the release date.

That is, We Found Love has sold 1.2 million in just over a year, Umbrella's been out for what, 5 or 6 years as well as being number 1 for about ten weeks or something when it was first released and its still only sold 2/3 of We Found Love!

Also, wow Diamonds at only 50k behind Umbrella already since November (!) Umbrella's not even going to be IN her top 5 soon enough, probably by summer!
