I could say that anyone who has mentioned an American series should, of course, be disbarred from the UK forum
My votes...
60s The Marriage Lines (Richard Briars, Prunella Scales)
60s All Gas and Gaiters (Derek Nimmo, William Mervyn, Ernest Clark)
60s Doctor in the House (also Ernest Clark, Barry Evans, George Layton)
I'm thinking the 60s must have been my TV heyday... before I got waylaid by after-school activities !
I dont have my own to add but I'm just amazed that, due to it's huge global popularity, Friends hasn't been mentioned once lol overexposure tainted its legacy maybe? Or the fact that as it's still shown everyday, it doesn't really feel like it belongs to a particular decade (it's now into its 3rd decade continuously showing in the UK).
It was great during the first two or three series, but really just became an uncomfortable parody of itself, IMHO.
Yet as halloween Babe said, shouldn't be mentioned in here anyway, along with all my picks:o

You could be picky and say we can't talk about The Bridge, TK, Wallander etc which aren't UK shows and there are threads about Blue Bloods, Late Show with David Letterman and Who's Your Favourite Vampire in a TV Series thread which mentions American programmes:p:D But Frasier is one of my fave sitcoms so I included it and it's shown on UK tv, HB, so there:p
Edit: Good call on Red Dwarf, I forgot that one and it was v funny:)
I wish sky , Comedy Central or any broadcaster would start a Comedy Classic Channel or a Classic TV Channel .
I'd like a comedy channel that shows comedies which are never or hardly ever repeated. There are lots of British comedies like Hot Metal, Chelmsford 123, KYTV, Naked Video, The Kit Curran Radio Show, Life Without George, for example, which haven't been repeated.
I think I'm going to have to invest in The Golden Girls dvds, I can't see them being shown again for a while:(
Apropos of nothing - a triple bill of 70s sitcoms are about to air right now on BBC2 - Some Mothers Do Ave Em, The Good Life, the current run of Dad's Army, then 73 TV, I Love 1971 (pissed off I missed 1970 and not on iPlayer)...
I'll just do UK otherwise it's too hard.
60s: On The Buses
70s: Some Mothers Do Ave Em
80s: Only Fools And Horses
90s: One Foot In A Grave
00s: The Inbetweeners
10s: Nothing!
I cannot just choose one from each decade, but I've got a short-list!
60's : Steptoe & Son, All Gas and Gaiters
70's: Bless This House, Love Thy Neighbour, George & Mildred, Fawlty Towers, Soap
80's: Blackadder, Red Dwarf
90's: One Foot in the Grave, Brittas Empire, Father Ted
00's: My Family, Gavin & Stacey
10's: Miranda, Not Going Out
60's -Steptoe and Son.
70's -Fawlty Towers/Porridge/Some Mothers Do Ave Em
80's -Only Fools and Horses
90's-One Foot in the Grave.
00' (no stand out for me -need time to think)
I think I should've put OF&H in the 80's and 90's. My favourite episodes were when they went to 50 mins from the late 80's to the early 90's (including the Christmas specials from 86-90).
Just about the worst sitcom ever.60s - Steptoe and Son
70s - Fawlty Towers
80s- OFAH
90s- Drop the Dead Donkey
00s- The Inbetweeners
10s- Mongrels
Kudos for that, Frood. But was there a n ITV sitcom from LWT that was actually funny? I can't think of even one. 'Doctor in the House/in charge' ad nauseum. Thames had a few as did Granada, but not one of LWT's including also 'Please Sir' of course.

Same. I'm not a big fan of American sitcoms in general.

I could add many more .
I love Frasier, The Golden Girls and Cheers, but other than that I can't think of anything else (not that I've seen a lot of American sitcoms really).
1990s Ab Fab, Vicar of Dibley, Men Behaving Badly
2000s Benidorm, Miranda, 30 Rock
2010s Mrs Brown's Boys

Yes The Golden Girls is another one I want to add to my list. My list is getting longer:o
Yes I loved The Golden Girls, sky LIVING were re-running it but not now:mad:
Yes I remember they re-ran every series about three times in a row a couple of years ago, but I didn't mind. I could watch it over and over again:D

I'd argue that the Steptoe episodes in the early seventies were better than the sixities episodes.
Several genuinely great sitcoms in the seventies. Porridge, Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads, Fawlty Towers, Rising Damp
70s Dads Army
80s Only Fools And Horses
90s One Foot In The Grave
00s The Office
10s Outnumbered
And Hancock was better on the radio so it's hard to think of another good 60s sitcom.
