Hi,

Im so tired on a morning and night, to the extent that I cant be bothered to cook, clean, do anything other than sit in front of the tv. I havent even made love to my girlfriend in a while as im so tired, and when we do its over in minutes.
I get 7-8 hours sleep per night, but cant get myself out of bed on a morning.
Its now really starting to get me down, and im sure its getting my girlfriend down too.
Any ideas?

Drink lots of water and eat far more fruit, vegetables and lean meats than you do carbohydrates. :)

Go and see your GP - it could be diabetes, ME, an underactive thyroid or any number of things. Are you depressed? Depression can quite often leave you feeling tired.

Are you sure you're getting a good sleep?

I know you won't feel like it but as well as PamelaL's advice excercise regularly - along with a good diet you will be energiseed in no time :)

Oh and cut back on any refined foods (white bread, white rice, sugar etc) and think brown :)

    Hi mate

I had the same problem a couple of years back...I used to finish work, come home and I'd be so knackered that I couldn't be bothered to cook so would get a take away or something and then fall sleep in front of the tv.

Basically, I solved the problem by doing this -

    i) Going swimming once a week (or any exercise)
    ii) Drink loads of water
iii) Have a solid breakfast of oats, have a sarnie for lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, and then cook something for dinner.

I know it's a cliche, but having breakfast is probably what most helped me. Beforehand, I used to miss breakfast and binge eat which made me tired.

    Hope you get sorted. ;)

Out of interest, what's wrong with white bread and rice? I do eat a lot of white bread and rice, hence why I'm asking! :)

Less complex carbohydrates are digested really quickly and release sugar into your bloodstream quickly, this is what makes you feel tired and lethargic. :)

Exactly, causing you to have a temporary 'fix' and too much insulin at one time which can cause irritability and fatigue.

I tell you, that Gillian McKeith, she might not be a real doctor but she knows what she is talking about.

I suggest that you have your thyroid checked, otherwise, maybe you are depressed.

Im exactly the same at the moment.

I dont have the energy to do anything much, im so shattered already today that im seriously thinking of going to sleep when the kids go to bed.

Im eating well, sleeping 8-9 hours a night most nights.

I suffer with depression and this tiredness is different to that tiredness. Besides at my last GP check up im not depressed anymore.

Go to see your GP (as i will be doing too!) they are the best people to help.

Had the same problems until I started drinking more water, now I drink at least 2 small bottles at work and a large glass before bedtime.

Apart from the constant peeing, my energy levels have come back to normal.

Go and ask your docter to run some blood tests, you should not feel that tired all the time. Iron deficiancy and hypothyroid can make you feel really exhausted among other things. Don't leave it - if it is a health issue the longer you leave it the worse it will get.

I was tired all the tiem too and was down a lot but Iron tablets and eating fresh fruit and veg has made a difference. I got a blood test from the doctors and I was seriously low on it and got special iron tablets. You could give that a try.....

Just out of intrest, all of you who feel like you have never slept properly or fall asleep during the day - do you snore??
I had a lot of symtoms mentioned on here and went to see a specialist and discovered that I have got OSAS (Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome)
This is quite a serious and dangerous illness (and can be aggrovated if you carry excess weight)

    http://www.sleep-apnoea-trust.org/sleep_apnoea.html

Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones who have not been able to benefit from any treatment, but just knowing why i felt so blooming ill all the time was a help.
Check out the link above and keep pushing your GP until he refers you to a sleep clinic. I spent 10 years feeling like some of you people and was put on various depression drugs, told to lose weight, told to stop drinking, eat properly, tested for thyroid, diabetes etc infact all the stuff some of you have been told yourselves. I am now able to rationalise my feelings and now I know what is wrong with me, am able to continue with a near normal life most days.

You really need to go to your GP, he/she will probably give you a blood test. Don't start taking iron tablets etc before you've been checked, it could be a number of things causing it.

Try and sleep less. I used to think that I needed eight hours and even if I woke up after seven, I'd roll over and just lie there for another hour. I've since realised I can get by on five or six hours now.

Also, just try to get out of the house a couple of evenings every week. It doesn't have to be exercise at all. Just popping around to a mates' house to watch crap on the telly or play video games will help. Suggest to your girlfriend that she also tries to get out of the house and do her own thing a couple of nights a week.

The advice about food is good. At the start of the year, I weighed 13 and a half stone and I'm currently 11 stone 10 pounds. I just stopped buying ready-meals and now eat less wheat (bread, pasta, pastry), red meat and dairy products. I only eat cottage cheese instead of hard cheese; I eat wholemeal varieties of wheat products when I do rarely eat them. I even switched to brown sugar in my coffee and stopped adding milk.

Also take a multivitamin every day if you don't already do so. As other posts have advised, stay away from the ones with iron in. ASDA do a tub of 30 multivitamins (without minerals added) for about 45p.

I'd also advise you to stay away from artifical sweeteners. I used to get headaches every day and as soon as I cut out saccharin, aspartame and phenyllaline (sp?) the headaches disappeared.

Do you have a stressful job?

Finally, treat yourself once a month by sacrificing one night out and spending the money on clothes, toiletries or haircuts etcetera. If you attempt to make yourself look better, you'll instantly feel better.

I get days like that, too much hassle doing everyday jobs, I feel so bored of it all, the grind.

but I have a cold from hell, enduring things that are horrible and got some major life decisions to make.

    Circumstances can bring you down.

I think eat more, drink a lot of fluids, take some vitamins and have a good sleep. That can do wonders for you.
