I'm not sure if the Superbowl figures will be as high as last year; it's a walk over approaching half time.

Will Beyonce and rumours of a Destiny's Child reunion not spike some yankee doodle interest?

Destiny's Child reunite at the Superbowl.

Viewers on Sky Sports 1 and BBC2 reminded that this is not ITV2's Big Reunion.

Elementary should do 25m or so, CBS missed a trick not ordering an episode of The Big Bang Theory that could have aired after the Superbowl, that could've done over 40m,

Superbowl - A 109 yard touchdown followed by a power outage. It may be one sided but it isn't boring. The outage may have boosted the ratings slightly as people tune back in to see what's going on.

They really missed a trick not putting a new episode of The Big Bang Theory in the US. It managed to get 20m in an episode a few weeks ago, it could easily get 30m+ if it was on tonight. Remember when Friends went from being around 31m the week before and then managed 53m.

Indeed. Sky have been in and out of feed. Assuming the US commentators are out as Sky keep losing coverage and studio on site taking over

Terrible news for CBS. Not only is the game one sided, but every minute the power cut continues, the ratings will fall as people switch over to other channels. Expect worst Super Bowl ratings in at least half a decade and Elementary to get worst post Super Bowl ratings since Alias.

CBS via Sky advised at least 15 minutes for 'the lighting to recycle'

Disastrous, still, it peaks at half time so at least Beyonce got on!

Are Americans the same as us British in that they love watching a problem unfold? If so, there could be a boost. If not, as you say, viewers will float and this is a bit of a disaster for CBS.

    Probably :D

Sky have switched to full CBS coverage now despite using their studio before

The blackout will cause ratings to go down, even if its by just a couple million. People watching animation reruns on FOX right now and repeats on other channels arent going to switch over to Super Bowl just to see a blackout and watching sports analysts talking about a sport which these non Super Bowl viewers hate. Some of the Super Bowl viewers who were watching will be tuning off as we speak because it is boring watching a blackout. And bad news for Elementary, not only is this game a complete blowout, but because of this delay Elementary will start very late which will hurt its ratings. CBS executives must be pissed off right now!

Talking of Elementary the launch last night for Channel Ten would have been good news, 1.23m and over 700,000 of those in the 25-54 demo, so not elderly skewing. Masterchef also rose back up to 1.12m at 7.30pm, and won the 16-39 demo of the night, but only 3,000 ahead of Elementary. Modern Family and Bondi Rescue return next Sunday for Ten, but as does Downton forr Seven, and presumaby the cricket will still be on Nine, so harder competition next week. Graham Norton got 623,000 at 9.30 for Ten as well.

Nine News topped the night with 1.61m. Thhe cricket got 1.09m forNine. Seven saw Sunday night back 1.13m, followed by Border Security on 1.01m and The Force on 0.93m. ABC rushed the final two episdes of upstairs downstairs to conclusion last night with 0.65m and 0.57m, presumably to avoid Downton. They were due to return Call The Midwife later this month, but Midsommer Murders seems to be the replacement for now

Another reason why Big Bang Theory would have been a better bet - a half hour show wouldn't be hurt by a late start as much as an hour show. CBS couldn't have predicted a power cut but the game could have gone into overtime.

Imagine how late Elementary would come on if San Francisco came back and it did go into overtime.

Is anyone else finding the CBS studio coverage terrible?

    Makes MOTD seem fantastic

Agreed, even the normally reliable Jim Nantz saying "the ball is ruled down" just before a fumble and a turnover.
When they're saying on CBS "I feel it's getting away from the 49ers" they might as well be saying 'I know they're getting stuffed 28-6, please don't leave us!'

I had to laugh at CBS assuring viewers the power problem was 'electrical'

Sky seem to have given up on their studio, BBC have sadly returned to Chappers

Edit - Sky returned to studio

Viewers in the US won't switch off the Super Bowl as nearly ever other channel is waving a white flag and showing repeats.

Elementary will be badly hit though as its going to start very late on the East Coast now. CBS will be absolutely fuming. There will be severe recriminations following this

They said 15 minutes ages ago. Hell of a delay.

If the game had gone into overtime Elementary would be on late, though. That's the risk they take with the post show programme.

Sky Sports News presenter is unimpressed that Vernon Kay is an NFL pundit for Sky Sports (he does play American football though, I have no issue with it, unlike her)...

She is absolutely right about Ben (and Vernon) in fairness.

Although probably best not to express such opinions in public!

Great news for CBS. Imagine how many more ads they've got in?

People won't have switched off - a blackout at the Superbowl is a massive story.
