will lady gaga under perform again?
With a new sound of music topping the charts in the us,UK and around the world..will lady gagas dance pop EDM dance music under perform...with dance pop on a downward spiral eg Jennifer lopes live it up flopping around the world and kesha and other dance artists really flopping..is the dance trend on its way out?and is that the reason lady gaga is taking so long with her album and singles that she may be changing the sound?will her singles be able to top the charts or will she be the next kesha if she keeps the dance pop?

She can do whatever she wants, I think it'll be good no matter what tbh, and she's taking her time because she just had major surgery on her hip.
That rule doesn't tally some artists have started off rather slowly picking up on further releases Rihanna being a prime example. Gaga well it's hard to say the hype was on overload and she exploded fairly quickly and it is a question of whether she peaked and was a flash in the pan and can pull it back. Until we hear anything solid it'll be hard to say.

The audio file on there was posted by one of her main producers recently and he said whilst it isn't an instrumental from Artpop, it isn't entirely unconnected, so I think this is very much representative of the sound of the album. I think it sounds fresh and clean, something that BTW steered far away from, so its good to see she's changing things up.
But anyway, if she releases a fresh and quality lead single, she'll do fine, but I hope people cut her some slack this time around. She won't top 'TF'/'TFM' and that should be acceptable.
From what we know, Gaga is playing with electro, jpop, trap and there are rumours she may be sampling Edith Piaf, with Madeon, Zedd and DJWS being the main producers. It's not going to sound like her previous work, let alone what RedOne/Dr. Luke etc. toss out to second/third tier stars.
Regardless, you have to remember that it's the pop hook(s) that will do the selling - the production is decoration - so as long they're strong and there's a good and reasonably fresh beat, she'll be fine. Not to mention, the break from dance domination will have given everyone a breather and should result in a more receptive audience/radio. Actually, the lack of dance/electro will aid her music standing out to the now dominant "alternative" pop and ballads.
It doesn't really matter at what point in your career you have your biggest album, whether it be your second or your fifth, if an era doesn't do as well as it's predecessors then people will consider it to have under-performed where-ever it appears in an artists discography. Take Rihanna for example, if you solely base her success on GGGB and Loud, then Rated R, Talk That Talk and Unapologetic all vastly under-performed.
But what Rihanna is able to do however, outside of those peaks is hold a consistent level of sales and success. GGGB and Loud are the expectations, not the rule, but what she can be guaranteed to do is sell around 3m albums. Four out of her seven albums have done so. Which is why I also think it's important we wait and see how well Album Four does as well as AP itself to see where Gaga's career is heading. If AP sells as well as BTW, or A4 sells as well as ARTPOP then we will have found Gaga's consistent level of success. However If AP does sell less than BTW, and A4 then sells less than AP then we know she's on a undeniable downward track. Which isn't necessary a bad thing. Britney has been on a massive downward spiral since day dot and she's had a career to die for.
Anyway my prediction for ARTPOP is it'll be one of the best selling albums of the year, go #1 practically everywhere, as will it's lead single. Beyond that? Well we'll have to wait and see...
The addition of YouTube views into the Billboard chart, and streaming into US certifications can only work in her favour.
Not 100% true. 'Circus' has sold quite a significant amount more than 'Blackout' despite being released afterwards.
As for Lady Gaga, I think it is entirely possible for her to have another very successful era. While 'Born This Way' was hardly a flop, the singles probably didn't do as well as hoped so that might be something she'll work on this time around. I can't say for sure since she hasn't officially released any new music but what I've heard about 'ARTPOP' sounds promising.
Well, you can dance to any genre of music. You can dance to rock music. Even some R&B songs like Suit & Tie and Blurred Lines are big in clubs at the moment. And of course there was the dance craze Harlem Shake, which is actually a trap song, and trap music is a style of hip hop.
Dance-pop IS on a downward spiral. People were saying this would happen 12 months ago, and other people were saying stuff like "Oh no, Gotye and Adele are just coincidences", "We'll get more dance hits in the coming months", "EDM style music will take over next year" blah blah blah. If I'm bored I might dig out those old threads lol.
Look where we are now. Not a single dance song has gone #1 in the US since We Found Love, which was a long time ago. It's even less popular than it was last year. We're now seeing a comeback of proper house music (the minimal stuff that doesn't have many synths and catchy choruses), of hip hop, of drum & bass, of R&B and of alternative. Dance music is much less popular than it was 2 years ago, and all the other genres are coming back now. Surely everybody must realize this?
The ONLY big dance song right now is I Love It by Icona Pop, and that isn't really in the style that was popular back in 2007-2011 anyway. Every other song that's big now is other genres. Compare that to this time in 2011 where like 90% of the hits were dance.
I think the UMG figure of 6.8m is highly likely to be inflated and include shipments. The general consensus is BTW sold around a still really rather excellent 6m copies.
The two main sources people use are:
Media Traffic which gives total sales of 5.8m (2011: 5.4m + 2012: 400,000)
and MusiChart.net which gives total sales of 6.1m (2011: 5.8m + 2012: 300,000)
We'll never totally know for sure how much any album has truly sold as all sources have their flaws - labels are highly likely to inflate, Media Traffic counts most markets but not all, I don't know about MusiChart and the IFPI deal in shipments.
Well 85.68% true then (don't hold me to that percentage, it's six o'clock in the morning and I'm tired).
Excluding the anomaly that was Circus then, as I say each Britney albums has done significantly worse than it's predecessors (majorly so in some cases), and yet she has had a career people would sell their entire families for.
The dance pop songs which are flopping are average, hence the flop.
Ke$ha had a hit with die young, because it was a great song, but her follow up was pretty pants.
JLO's live it up is pretty naff lets face it, its like a downward spiral for the quality of songs these types of artists are releasing.
I dont think the type of music has anything to do with it.
Release a good song with promotion and it will be a hit.
I see the sense inw hat your saying but she worked up to that point and has as you say consistently done well small acorns and all that . But for gaga being as huge as she was it isn't unfavourable to comapre as expectations were and still are high as she has been given acertain level of well expectation and people just expect her to do well mostly down to her own ego and the thinking that she was srely going to be as big as if not outdo Madonna and MJ. and unless she does do as well as if not better it is an underperformance. She has alot more to lose than most and if she can't pull back the waning interest there is nowhere to go but the cyndy lauper rote critical darling but no Madonna (in terms of sales impact etc). but as i said we have yet to hear anything solid so i'm holding judgement.
But BTW was a mess really, too many promo singles released, poor second single, the EOG video debacle - badly handled overall IMO.
I'm hoping that the Artpop era is handled better - good lead single, video and then the album. No promo singles and endless hype.
All she really has control over is how (relatively) gradual the decrease is, because an artist like her is unlikely to ever appeal to the lucrative demographics that sent 21 soaring.
So far, TF, TFM and BTW have each shifted in the similar range of 7/8 million, so AP will probably join them as long as it's not a misfire.
And if you split it up...each album has sold more or less the same as each other with only a minor slide with BTW from TF/TFM sales. Not too much of a biggy.
Now with ARTPOP that has been a needed break in albums a year space out which will benefit her....she has a loyal fanbase already so that will ensure stable sales if nothing else....the real test will be can she make a real shake up for the next album...take a gamble and push for new territories (by the sound sof things she will be mixing it up) or will she want to win the commercial audiences back (the rumours of a split album/commercial side and going back worry me a bit)
But i do think with focus, dedication, cohesiveness and strong imagery to go alongside the music (seeing she cites Madonna and Bowie as major influences...take some more leaves out of their books) totally reinvent herself onto the next stage musically.
I am very much intrigued as to what she will do
The real problem for Gaga is the exact same problem the Spice Girls had. Too much success to early on hinders you. It is completely unrealistic to suggest she could ever match her debut with each new release as that won't happen. No artist who came in with Lady Gaga/Spice Girls type sales has ever lasted.
I think the biggest test for Gaga now is proving she is the Queen Bee of this new generation. Rihanna is setting chart records at an unstoppable rate. She has now sold more singles than The Beatles fgs! Adele, well no one can complete with her, while Beyoncé riding a massive new popularity wave and her new material hasn't even made its debut yet. These three alone are having more success than Gaga had with BTW. What's interesting. Is that Gaga went from being someone who was being compared to Madonna/Michael Jackson in her debut era. To someone who is now having to watch out for the current divas rather than the legends. That suggests Gaga was never really that great in the first place.
The even more bigger test for Gaga though is future tours. BTW bombed compared to all expectations. Sorry fans it did and you all know it. I could bring up all the threads on here with the claims of her making $500 to show just how off the predictions were. Everyone was expecting BTW to be one of the all time biggest grossing tours in history. While its at a good 26 on the chart its well below any history making figure. Even with the American dates it wouldn't have been much higher. I can't see Live Nation wanting to fork out on a tour the scale of BTW again after the disaster of South Africa and South America. So the notion certain Gaga fans on here had about each of her new tours outdoing the previous one was also a farcical prediction which was proven by what happened with BTW. When I said this would happen on here last May I was shot down in flames. Yet look! it came true.
