Nexus 4 Battery Life - < 3 hours?

I've just got a Nexus 4 and it's my first real phone. But the battery life is around 3 hours from full charge to almost nothing.
I'm sorry but that seems incredibly low to me. I'd expect to be able to charge it overnight and then have it working all day. 3 and a bit hours is just appalling.
Can anyone comment or shine any light on this? I've already turned off everything I can, but even then, it seems insane that you have to turn off everything just to get 3 hours of power from the phone.
Very unhappy with it so far in that respect.

I've been using it on and off all day. Made a phone call, sent some messages. Did a few bits and pieces.
Nothing major.
On and off, yes, about 3 hours of screen time. But that's doing very little other than browsing, etc.
Is that REALLY the battery life I can expect to see...?
It's insane. Worse than that, even... I'm simply stunned at the amount of battery power this thing has(n't).
3 hours = 2.5 watts power drain.
I could quite imagine that big bright screen using 2 watts.
It is very similar with smaller phones with smaller screen and smaller batter.
i use it almost constantly thru the morning/day and don't have to connect it again until around 2pm/2:30pm (and even then it's not below 20%).
that's around 8 hours usage.
i use it for browsing web, txting, and whatsapp (whatsapp is a big battery drain on both iphone and android).
3 hours suggests you have a rogue app or a faulty device.
(i was getting around the same battery usage on an iphone 4s doing the same tasks and same battery charging routine).
Or maybe bright screen = 2 watts, duller screen = 0.5 watts.
That would make 250% difference
gps
wifi
3g data
bluetooth
Put you screen brightness on auto
and only switch them on as required -- then if you make just a few calls you will get days upto 6 in my experience .
Brilliant - turn off the features that make a smartphone useful.
no need to turn those off, i haven't and don't see the battery issues the OP has.
So thanks again
More likely a rogue app than a rogue battery.
I've had a few with my Nexus 7 eating battery merrily away in the background....it's a huge pain tracking them down.
Put the screen brightness on auto - this WILL make a difference. I noticed a marked improvement after doing this. That said, I never had only 3 hours use out of the phone.
If you don't see any improvement after the auto brightness change, then I'd say you have a faulty unit. The phone easily lasts a day of use with browsing, games, music and social stuff.
LOL I understand where you are coming from , but if you are away from a charger and trying to eke out the battery life this is the way to do it .
The main process using the battery was 'msm_hsic_host' if I remember correctly (install BetterBatteryStats to check).
My Nexus 4 lasts from 0600-2230 and is usually at 40%. That's with push mail, my sms, and latitude on.
Today it has done 19h 38m and is on 58%, though I've not really used it (screen on).
it really depends on the individual useage though and the apps being used, some are real battery drainers.
whatsapp and the facebook app (by recent reports) or not great on the battery.
3 hours screen time is normal judging by my usage and other people's usage I've seen on forums.
nonsense!
I can read for 3 hours solid on my Nexus 4 and still have battery left.
The OP needs to turn the Auto Brightness on. That made a difference for me.
Have you switched on the Auto Brightness in Settings? Forget rogue batteries and rogue apps until you've done that. seriously.
it's set to auto by default, so unless the OP has turned auto off it should be on.
Mine wasn't when I got my Nexus. Maybe it's been changed to on by default in the last update.
