Is this one ok? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350784831828?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Only going to use it for downloading and surfing. Don't play games, and don't even download a massive amount of music or indeed any films now.
I dunno I'm a dumbo. Is 2gb enough? What does having less prevent me doing? Also, what makes loading up a website go slowly or quickly - the processor?

It's expensive for what it is, I've seen cheaper higher spec laptops around.
2gb of ram, definitely enough but 4gb is better just incase you ever need to run lots of programs at once.(You need more RAM to run multiple programs at once as each program uses an amount of RAM) I think 2gb would be enough but its always good to have 4gb, its seen as the standard these days. Website speed - mainly down to the processor but also internet connection speed and what browser you use. Most laptops out there will be fast enough, no need to spend over £250 if you are just surfing
If you are just downloading/surfing the web, most laptops should be fine.
Cheapest new laptop I can find is £199

Processor will provide the basic computing though alot of browsers allow you to utilize graphics hardware acceleration. But a large part of what you perceive as a fast website experience will derive from your internet connection.
The processor in that isn't that strong but it may suit your needs if you can't increase your budget.
I have a netbook which has an even slower processor. It also had only 1GB ram. It copes with standard browsing just fine. It's slow loading programs up (as that takes alot of computing power) so while my desktop PC might load up iTunes almost instantly on the Netbook I'm waiting for 10-20 seconds. Once its loaded into memory of course, its speedy.
It should be fairly easy. There should be an access door underneath the laptop which will give you access to the memory bays. Although you need to check that the laptop can support 4GB memory (I think the X54C does support a max of 4GB). Older laptops in particular won't always support large amounts of memory.
I buy my memory upgrades from crucial.com/uk , it has a system scanner which will automatically detect what type of memory the computer requires (provided you are browsing their site from the actual laptop) and in my experience, Crucial is often very well priced.
Same laptop discussed at hotukdeals:

One issue I've noticed already (just started using it today) is that it takes much longer to load tabs (like up to minute sometimes) and even stuck while I was typing this briefly. Is this down to the processor or something else? I never had these problems on my last two laptops with the same net connection.
what browser are you using?
How does this compare to the laptop you stole from Tesco?
What cpus did you have in the other laptops? I found getting used to the limitations of my Netbook took a while when I'm accustomed to much higher spec systems.
That said it doesn't have problems opening tabs, they are almost instant (I use Chrome on the Netbook) and that's with a lowly AMD c-50.
why do you keep saying this
Because you stole a laptop from Tesco, remember?
I dunno but having similar issues except slower so far with this one. It keeps saying shockwave has crashed and even clicking between tabs is taking a while.
I am using chrome and my email account seemed to infect it on my previous two laptops.
As per your other thread, you need to eliminate any Chrome extensions from being the cause of the issues.

And what happens if you browse websites using Internet Explorer instead of Chrome?
