I enjoyed it but I do feel that once all the hype has died down that people will feel differently about it. Without giving too much away, there did seem to be a few too many convenient moments for the bad guy when his henchmen suddenly appear out of nowhere. It also rang very true for me when someone mentioned Home Alone earlier!

I won't feel differently at all. I don't go to see films because of hype. I go to see films I want to see. I thought Skyfall was brilliant. Proper Bond film. Definitely in the top 5 of the series for me.

Why would you cast a black actor as James Bond?

I presume that the James Bond of the movies is still nominally the James Bond of the books?
It would be as baffling as casting a white guy as Shaft !

I don't think they should f*ck with the character just to be "Equal-opportunity politically-correct".
There always have been plenty of strong coloured roles in the Bond movies.

That's what they do these days though, which if you've seen Skyfall you'll know, but yes, white characters are made black but never the other way around, Bond and Dr Who, being iconic British characters are prime candidates to be played by black actors to show how Britain is now multicultural.

The Operative from Serenity? I think he'd be a good choice if they did cast a "Black Bond".

Hardly the same as casting a white Shaft. The whole point of Shaft is that he's a "black private dick that's a sex machine to all the chicks" ;) Being black is an integral part of his character.

Not really the same with Bond. So long as he remains British, I don't see that it matters what colour Bond is.

Bond should stay white, sorry but I don't see why they should change race. It would seem more of a publicity stunt than anything. Plus as Elba himself said, you would always be known as the 'black James bond' not James Bond.

I have to say though I'm a huge fan of the wire and love Idris Elba. He's a great actor.

This movie was freaking great, kinda wish I was British now, lol. I wanna see it again, maybe tomorrow or Monday for matinee.

I was disappointed with Skyfall. They built up Javier Bardems character saying he was somebody to be really feared, scary etc...and although he was a fairly evil/clever character, I've seen better. Christopher Walken as Max Zorin in A View To A Kill springs to mind, and also Robert Carlyle as Renard in The World is Not Enough.

Yeah he was a little wasted for my liking. Would have been good if he had escaped at the end and then they could have carried him forward into the next film perhaps. He was a brilliant bad guy.

He doesn't even have to be British; Brosnan & Lazenby aren't.

As long as he has a British accent, that's the main thing for me.

I agree what you say about casting a black actor; it has zero relevance to Bond's character whether he is black or white.

I'd quite like to see Adrian Lester as Bond. I think he is cool enough to play it convincingly.

yeah I don't think they should cast a black actor , why not just make another spy movie with a black actor ?

I agree. A black bond would just feel strange, almost like if they cast a white actor in a new 'Shaft' movie. I just don't think it would work.

Saw it last night. Bit long, bit slow but it was watchable. But best Bond ever? Hmm...

Found it difficult to make out what Daniel Craig said some of the time. I know he has a tendency to mumble, but it might have been the crap sound system at the cinema I was watching the film in.

The baddie was quite convincing. Reminded me of the bad guy in No Country For Old Men.

New identity for Bond after Craig? I suggest Matt Damon.

$90 million opening weekend in the US, might go up a bit more tomorrow when more accurate figures come in.

^ Yup, $90m or thereabouts. Already at $518m worldwide, and will race past Casino Royale's $594m record.

Boxofficemojo reckon $900m is possible (), which would really give Daniel Craig something to whinge about.

Now seen it - wasn't even remotely impressed. A very mediocre script that was too jokey (and mostly poor jokes at that) for my tastes.

Still, it was better than Quantum of Solace, but nowhere near as good as the mostly first class Casino Royale.

I saw Skyfall last night, and was a bit underwhelmed. As someone in my work described it, it was like a long episode of Spooks.

Now, I suspect part of the problem is that I grew up with the Bond of Roger Moore when he was battling supervillains trying to take over the world, and I must admit, I miss these storylines - The Spy Who Loved me, Moonraker, On her Majesty's Secret Service (not Moore I know). The Bond of recent years has all been too real for me. I can understand why they do it, but it's not the Bond I know and love.

Having said that, Casino Royale is a great Bond film. Maybe it's when they leave the framework set out in the Fleming books. I didn't like Quantum of Solace either.

The action in Skyfall was ok, but as I said, the chasing around London was no different from an episode of Spooks.

Was really good to see M's office at the end which made me recall that we are actually at the start of the Bond story not the end of it and so the new M is, I assume, the one portrayed by Bernard Lee.

All in all, Skyfall gets a 6.5 out of 10 from me. A decent film, but not really enough Bond for me.

I find it interesting how there appears to be a divide between the majority of people who think the film is excellent and a small but substantial number who didn't like it. The term 'unimpressed' seems to be used most often. I've found this with my friends, the majority of who really enjoyed it but a few, including myself, who thought the plot was poor. I listened to Mark Kermode's film review show on Radio 5 and he thought it was great but did state that he's got a surprising number of e-mails from people who disagreed.

I personally don't think it can all be down to people unhappy that Bond has changed. I'm only 30 so I grew up with the Brosnan bond and of his films I thought only Golden Eye and Tomorrow Never Dies were any good (and they're hardly classics). The rest of the films I first saw as a young kid so it's hard for me to judge without rose-tinted glasses.

I would be interested to know of the people that don't like the new bond what they think of the Bourne movies as I also didn't really 'get' the fuss about them either. And that's as someone who read the first 2 books long before the films got made.

Saw it last night, was overall very impressed. Though the words "Home Alone" did cross my mind at one point! :D

Something that puzzled me though, perhaps I missed something or wasn't paying attention properly at the time. Wondered if anyone can answer it for me?

When Silva was imprisoned in the temporary underground HQ of MI6, how did he escape his plastic box? I know that certain trapdoors sprung open and that he escaped through one of these to the tunnels. But all we saw (as far as I can remember) was that the guards were dead and that he was gone.

Pretty sure no-one "sprung him out" as there was no-one with him during the suqsequent chase through the tunnels.

So how did he get out of his box?!

He looks too much like Andi Peters for me to take im seriously as Bond.

And if not Andi Peters, then Gary Wilmot.

    Isn't that a contradiction? :)

I love the first three Bourne movies with Matt Damon as Bourne - the fourth with Jeremy Renner (a yawn-worthy 'actor') should have been strangled at birth.

You could just as easily say that Spooks is basically just a shorter version of a James Bond film though (or any other spy film/series, albeit with far less action), so i don't really buy that complaint.

I understood it that ALL of the doors within MI6 opened when Silva's computer virus infected the MI6 computers, so that would also mean that Silva's cell door would open too. I did find it a bit odd that they'd put a supposedly secure cell in a room with an easily accessible vent that goes directly to an abandoned Underground station, but i guess they never planned for him to escape;)

There's a world of difference of the Spook-esque style chases through the underground network and the lavish car and boat chases we've become used to in Bond films.

I'm not saying the chase across London was bad or not enjoyable, but it's not how these sort of things have been done before in James Bond films. It's a style thing.

Like some, I preferred Casino Royale, but can't help thinking that Skyfall could and should have been better.

I thought Skyfall was brilliant, but my problem with it being I didn't get to know more about Javier Bardem's character. He was billed as insanely intelligent, but we never got to see any of it. I wanted to see Bond's equivalent but he was nowhere near.

He was also supposed to be incredibly scary and all the build up to meeting him was brilliant. His first scene was amazing as well - with the elevator in the background and the brilliantly delivered story about M. But I lacked any fear towards him after that point.

The foreplay was there, and it was the best I've ever had but I was still left unsatisfied.

So was I, up until the
"Home alone" sequence at Skyfall Mansion

After that, I was satisfied with what I saw. Casino Royale is the best film of the three though, much as I enjoyed Skyfall. :)

I really enjoyed the movie right up until the ending, which left a real bitter taste.
The whole plot of the film was about saving M. All that struggle for nothing. So her death...

...for me made the film a complete waste of time!

This. James failed to do his job properly. He should be sacked.
