How many computers do you have/need?

I've upgraded recently and passed on the upgraded parts to a secondary system that I use for torrents/retro gaming/movies.

Which has left me with a third generation of parts that I'm considering a build with.

I'm struggling to find a use for it though.

I've also got a spare G840 that I've only used for 5 minutes to update a BIOS and considering using that in another build.

I think I enjoy the process a little too much. Maybe I should just whack all the bits on eBay.

It's amazing how much computing power you can get for cheap these days.

    1 PC, 1 tablet and 1 smartphone.

Don't think you can have too many though!

I quite like the idea of an iPad but I know for sure it would get rarely used.

Interestingly enough I didn't consider my smartphone. Though it must have more computing power than my first PC (486 something - SX springs to mind).

    I have a desktop and a tablet.

I don't need the tablet but it's very handy to have it.

I thought that until I got one for work (testing) and use it loads now!

I really only need the one main computer and any more is a luxury. I regularly use two for design work to help speed up workflow.

    However, I have:
2 desktops (Win 7, XP (currently out of action)),
    4 laptops (2no. XP, 2no. Linux)
    1 Netbook (Linux)
    Power Mac G4
    Mac Mini (i5 from 2011)
    iPad (if we're counting those)

Also got an A1200 & A600 (latter gets used for old school Sensi Soccer tournaments still!). And an Atari ST that still works...

I'm getting rid of the Power Mac, though. It's actually still pretty fast compared to modern tech but it takes up a fair bit of space.

win7 laptop & a vista laptop (my current spare) + an older xp machine I might get round to fixing one day

any more than 2 working computers per person is just being a bit greedy/pointless imo

    ITX Ivy Bridge PC (Win7)
Crappy old Dell laptop (Linux Mint 13)
Ye olde 2G iPod Touch - no new apps work on it but its fine as an internet device

I dont really have a use for the laptop other than mucking about in Linux so not sure if i'll keep it much longer.

    -edit-
Oh and my TV has a web browser and apps if that counts.

    4 desktop computers of various ages (2 Win 8, 1 Win 7, 1 Linux).
    1 Apple ibook G4 laptop.
    1 Motorola Xoom 10" tablet.

Obviously I don't need 4 desktops, but I've acquired them over the years.
I've got one (i3, 8GB DDR3) in lounge connected to TV and hi-fi.
    One (Core2duo, 4GB DDR2) in dining room connected to a hi-fi.
The Win 7 one (P4, 2GB DDR) is my business machine, and I've got an 11 year old Dell (P4, 512 MB SDRAM) with a couple of lightweight Linux distros on it.
I don't use the ibook much since I got the tablet.

    In our house:

Windows XP desktop from 2003 (family machine)
Windows 2000 desktop from late 2002
Windows XP laptop from 2004 (my old one and first laptop - soon to become a Linux box)
Windows XP laptop from 2004 with broken screen (dad's old laptop)
    Windows 7 laptop from 2012 (mum's)
Windows 7 laptops from 2012 (dad's - he has two - one for travel and the other for home)
Macbook Pro 2010 (my favourite laptop)
Macbook Air 2012 (my second favourite laptop - I carry it around every day :D)
iPad 3 (2012) (was originally dad's but mum uses it more)
iPod Touch 2G from 2008 (mine, no longer works but can't bring myself to dump it)
iPod Touch 4G from 2010 (mine, use it all the time, runs iOS 6)
Android smartphone (mine, I'm the only one in the house to have a smartphone - my parents all have Nokia feature phones)
1987 DOS laptop (hasn't worked since 2003 but it was the first computer I ever used so there's no way I can get rid of it - it's a nice museum piece and talking point)

I also had an old Windows 95 desktop and Macintosh Performa 6300 but I got rid of those machines a long time ago. I also got rid of a rather useless Windows 3.1 desktop a long time ago, but I didn't feel bad about it because it was £20 fro a jumble sale and it was hardly ever used). My dad also had an Acer laptop running Windows 7 from 2010-2012 but the graphics card went on it and it was unrepairable. The ones he has now are replacements.

Oh and does our cable TV box count?

I thought I was weird having 7 computers, but apparently that's conservative around these parts.

Must get some more, the bathroom is so bare... needs a server I'm sure.

I just counted the list I posted above and it turns out we've owned about 17 computers altogether so far, including the ones no longer in use and the ones we got rid of. Think I need to buy another one. How about a Mac Mini to go under the TV? :D

Only two, an iMac and a laptop. The iMac has lots of RAM and a decent i5 processor in it though, so I can run multiple VMs at once.

This house has in use: 2 laptops, iPhone, HTC, iPad, iPod

And not in use (stored in a cupboard): 3 laptops, 1 PC

There are only 2 adults and 1 kid here so that's quite enough for us.

Did you get anything for them ?

I've got 4 or 5 old motherboard with CPU from around that era. I was wondering if I should bother testing and selling them or just binning them.

An ancient 17'' laptop with W7 running 24/7, 13'' laptop with W8, 13'' ultrabook with W8, Surface RT, and smartphone Lumia 920. I don't enjoy assembling PCs from parts, thus the laptops only.
