What happened to the days of "Feature Complete" games?
By this I mean a game that came complete not needing to buy any further DLC to bolster the game and make it a more complete experience. The worst example of this I always thought was Assassins Creed 2 in that it would stop at memory sequence 15 or so and you would have to purchase further DLC to complete the sequence ending at 20. There are only a handful of developers who follow this Valve being one of them. I just think the way Call of Duty is now setup on what is effectively a game + yearly subscription model it is money grabbing for no real benefit. Even worse however is they get you to pay for the DLC only for a GOTY edition to be released just as summer arrives with all DLC in tow for a much cheaper price. I really wish publishers and developers were a lot more up front about the need to purchase DLC to make the game feature complete. Valve and Nintendo are the only games makers I can think of that release their games feature complete which is a sad state of affairs.
When did gaming become so dishonest?

It's not so much dishonesty as 'opening new a revenue streams', the greedy *****
Speaking of which, the worst has to be 2k games, nobody creates as much premium DLC as they do, most of it completely unnecessary as well.
As for DLC in general if its worth then i have no problem with it, Assassin's creed 3 is a great example, non of the DLC was important to the main plot, but i easily got another 10-15 out of game
Or look at the DLC for GTA4, either of them could of been full games with a bit more work, but we got them on the cheap as DLC
Never. All games are feature complete. DLC is extra, and seperate. Grow up and stop being so entitled.
Nonsence, games like Assassins Creed 2 intentionally misses a few missions before the final mission that actually explains some of the story and were out as DLC at launch.
This is a case of stripping some stuff out of the final game in order to make a few bucks on DLC.
Other games like GTA4 I have no issues with, the game felt complete but if you wanted more you could play the expansions.
You've not played Simcity obviously.
Can't fix a traffic routing problem despite numerous patches - stumble on a workaround and release it as a ridiculous air balloon dlc.
On the other hand though we have GTA4 and RDR which did some great campaign expansion packs. Those packages contains lots of extra gameplay and provided real value for money. RDR also had a nice mix of free and paid DLC, the paid DLC could in some cases like the gang hideouts be played by people without the DLC packages as long as the mission was triggered by someone with the DLC (Although no XP could be earned if you didn't own the pack).
Borderlands and Fallout 3 are a mixed bag for me, I felt I got good value for money and a good expansion pack when I played the GOTY editions with all DLC. But as stand alone packages I think some of those were questionable and I dont really like the staggered releases. When it comes to DLC I like a nice big expansion package rather than a trickle of content.
DLC launched a couple of months later are fine, as they serve to get your interest back and keep the game fresh - like map packs on COD.
The flip side is the argument that you can buy a stripped down "lite" version of a game for cheaper or pay full price (ie buy the DLC) for the full game if you like it. Unfortunately this doesn't really work as they tend to sell the game for full price regardless...
