I'm surprised that there are not more threads about this on DS.
Just what is the BBC doing about it?
My Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi experience so far:-
Received from Amazon and all good everything working well - very pleased with it.
BBC update the iPlayer but can't be bothered to update their security certificates so can't download programmes to watch later.
BBC eventually fix this and all OK for a while.
Along comes KitKat 4.4.2 and all still OK.
Along comes KitKat 4.4.3 and iPlayer now stutters at 15 minutes into any downloaded programme - may stutter on streamed programmes too - I haven't checked.
Along comes KitKat 4.4.4 situation as above.
What total ******* the BBC are for not being on top of this problem or at least keeping - what - millions of people in the dark about what is happening.
On the slim chance that anyone from the BBC is reading this - get off your arse and get the bloody iPlayer fixed.

Doesn't affect streamed programmes.
BBC are trying to fix the issue - see here
Can confirm it doesn't happen on streamed video - purely for testing purposes of course I watched Bargain Hunt today.
I have noted this as a drawback with the Nexus devices, because they are the first to get the latest android versions, unfortunately developers are often lagging behind.
Has been an ongoing issue it seems.
It isn't "behind" in this case. Google introduced a number of bugs into HLS video streaming in Android 4.4.3, and there's quite possibly nothing that can be done until Google patch the OS.
(Or you patch out using the OS level video tools entirely, which is probably more than six months work).
iPlayer update today with no change in the stuttering after 17 minutes. However I did uninstall both iplayer, and the Media Player with no difference in the fault with or without the Media Player App installed.
PS: iPlayer does stream OK, as it does play the downloaded file even when you're online and think you're streaming instead - so my mistake there.
That's a full 2 months and counting with this problem.Certainly not a good advert for Google Nexus tablets if you want to watch BBC progammes off line.
Who can I write to for official comment on this?
The BBC know about it.

There is a "contact us" link on that page if you want to try and contact them.
Really meant an actual person, as I've done the 'contact us' bit several times over this, and other iPlayer issues.
Notice they now say we are continuing to raise this issue with Google.
which is not the same as the previously stated; 'we are working with Google to fix this issue' which they are most definitely not.
I imagine Philip Young as a 'janitor' tasked with sending placating messages from the iplayer site to disgruntled consumers on the late shift. I'd appreciate a more honest approach saying something like ' Budget cuts mean we can't pay the app developer for the fix, besides it's Googles fault' or even better 'Try installing flash for your device and running the iPlayer site through your browser' that might not work but at least it would be a positive response instead of waiting 8 weeks plus for this mundane, unhelpful stock reply.
Those who have taken advantage of the early download of Android L say it doesn't fix this issue, from what I read.Which is again disappointing if true.
iplayer still stuttering on mine, though now it starts after 34 minutes of play.
Android L might fix it when it becomes available.
Yes, they've made some improvements which means you can now watch a 30 minute programme before stuttering starts.

Great for Sky at Night and Detectorists, most other downloads are 1 hr and above.
I would have thought if lollipop will fix it Google would have said by now?
I doubt they'd be particularly interested eitherway.
Probably.I'd imagine those of us who watch programmes on iPlayer regularly are quite
a small audience.Would you know if the problem is ASUS hardware related?
Or could this be overcome by a software update from a third party developer, I keep reading about?
I don't know.
It's a pity they can't split some of the more popular hourly programmes into part 1 and part 2, so as to accommodate the android issues more easily.
Possibly as well. It's odd that no one is letting on to which corporation is responsible!
edit:and why my typing is disruped by this foums software!
Probably either a 30 minute programme, or there are some that I notice aren't as distracting as others. One I saw was the excellent Human Universe where Brian Cox's delivery seems to sync between the stuttering.
We already know who's responsible. It's Google.
The issue tracker for Android lists the OS level issue here -
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=70877
Google have acknowledged it, but haven't marked it as "fixed in next public release" which they probably would if Lollipop sorted it.
