Can anyone recommend a provider for PAYG, for a very low user (£10 lasts about 3 months), who won't keep sending pestering texts.
Would also help, if I could keep the same number.
Currently with orange, and sick of them.

I've been quite happy with Virgin Mobile - which is a MVNO for Orange and T-Mobile anyway...
BTW. What's a MVNO
Means Virgin uses Oranges/T-Mobiles network
Stands for Mobile Virtual Network Operator.
Mobile Virtual Network Operator - someone who bulk buys capacity and sells it on. See also Tesco Mobile, Asda Mobile, Lebara etc etc
I have had perhaps 2 texts this year so far asking me if I wanted a free 30 minute block of calls, or 100 MB internet. Despite thinking there were catches, there weren't. Apart from that, nothing
Those like I mentioned earlier.
eg. "You haven't set up any Magic Numbers".
BTW. What's shameful about topping up
I've had enough, and have decided to move to another network.
If it's a push message have you tried airblocker?.
Whatever they're called, they're still an annoying text message.
not yet but I will now you have suggested it!
only works on rooted devices sadly.
Ah, sorry.
Try 'airpush detector' , that'll tell you what app is causing it and you can decide whether you really need it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector&hl=en
it didn't find any apps which not very surprising as apart from poweramp & the swift flo keyboard thing, it's pretty much stock out of the box.
i turned off samsung push services notifications so at least now i won't even know i got a push message lol
Ovivo. One off charge for SIM (£15) then free thereafter (150 minutes, 150 texts, 400mb data per month).

Wife and I have been with them since last summer. No problems.
Beware if you port your number, you'll port the nuisance calls too.
What credit balance
And how do you pay for this credit balance?
Same here, since last September I have spent 26p for a MMS that I sent but that was only because I feel so guilty for not ever topping up or spending anything.:D
Not sure what you are referring to here because I can find no post in this thread from anybody called “Ovio” so don’t know what’s going on here but if you are referring to out of allowance credit on Ovivo then I can explain, you buy the sim for £15 but this money is converted to PAYG credit and used for any extras or out of allowance (currently 150 minutes plus 150 texts plus 400Mb data) calls or texts.
Calls and texts out of allowances are cheaper than GiffGaff who pride themselves on being the cheapest. Ovivo calls and text are 8p per minute and text 5p each as apposed to GiffGaff who are 10p and 6p respectively. This is of course out of allowance charges and on Ovivo there is no need for a GoodyBag and no need to top up every 3 months to keep same network to network free calls.
How long it will last only time will tell but for me I am quid’s in and I don’t have to post ridiculously stupid answers to stupid questions to get payback.:D
The £15 sim charge is added to your account, if/when you use that £15 up by going over your monthly limit, you can top up.
See my posts above, one is for rooted phones the other for non-rooted
