thought id bring this weeks featured year abit more up to date, using my personal top 20 from 2005 which was a good year for me. 'indie' or guitar based pop as i prefer to call it was dominant where only 6 years earlier had been all but absent from my favs list.

Except Meck and Leo Sayer - Thunder In My Heart Again, Infernal - From Paris to Berlin, Scooter - The Leading Horse and Jem - Just a Ride. Although to be fair I haven't heard the majority of that list, I hated Feel Good Inc, then and now.
The only thing that's changed now however is The Magic Numbers' debut album and a very nice smooth jazz album by Euge Groove came out that year. Very nice albums I didn't know at the time but enjoy now. And Depeche Mode - Precious from Playing The Angel.
From the amount of edits I've made it seems I liked 2005 more than I initially remembered!
Also very good were...
The Decemberists - 'Picaresque'
Wolf Parade's Debut
Sufjan Stevens - 'Illinois'
The National - 'Alligator'
The New Porngraphers - 'Twin Cinema'
My Morning Jacket - 'Z'.
And probably loads more I can't remenber!

Underrated classic
Signs and Switch are amazing club anthems from the 00's. We don't get as many such good club songs in the charts anymore, and they all sound the same, although we've got unique songs like Thrift Shop, Rattle and White Noise doing well atm, so maybe it's improving again.
erm... 'thunder in my heart again', 'precious' and 'from paris to berlin' were 06! :D (ok infernal had released it several times before it charted in april 06)
agreed. i think it went downhill rapidly after 05.
indeed, and not a style that i usually am very fond of.. but ive warmed to both snoop and jt.
was a good year for variety IMO, Indie was probably at its 00s peak, but as above Pop & R&B were still getting hits.
Agreed! Such an exciting time
From the long hot summer of 2005 I also liked Jem's Just a Ride, Magic Numbers' Love Me Like You and Coldplay's Fix You enough for these to be among my 6 fave songs of the Decade! Around that time was also Gwen Stefani's best song to date, Cool.
I reckon on revisiting this thread on Sunday with more choices.
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Coldplay - X&Y
Stereophonics - Language, Sex, Violence, Other
Faithless - Greatest Hits
Basement Jaxx - Greatest Hits
KT Tunstall - Eye To The Telescope
Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth
Foo Fighters - In Your Honour
Feeder - Pushing The Senses
Madonna - Confessions On A Dancefloor
Mylo - Destroy Rock N Roll
Editors - the Back Room
Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
Hard Fi - Stars Of CCTV
Kaiser Cheifs - Employment
Junior Jack - Trust It
Kanye West - Late Registration
The Killers - Hot Fuss
The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Saturn
Plus some great songs I enjoyed out during that year too:
Will Smith - Switch
Bob Sinclair - Love Generation
Ceasers - Jerk It Out
Reflect - Need To Feel Loved
Bodyrockers - I Like The Way
Tom Novy - Your Body
Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For?
Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
U2 - City Of Blinding Lights
The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You
The Magic Numbers - Love's A Game
2Pac - Ghetto Gospal
I have fond memories of 2005 tbh, a very peaceful year for me.
2007 was the last amazing year for mainstream music.
There's been loads of songs I've liked in the past few years though still, but the charts weren't as good imo.
Get Your Number by Mariah Carey is also an amazing club tune from that time imo. The pop stars are the time were mainly doing guitar pop stuff (like the Avril Lavigne/Maroon 5/Kelly Clarkson sound).
Don't Cha is an incredible urban song imo. I wish Pussycat Dolls would reform, even with a new line-up. But girl groups aren't very marketable now as they were back then.
have to disagree there m8...07 was dire imho with only a couple of tracks worth listening too... 'with every heartbeat' though was brilliant!
vive la differance!
look foreward to it!
2005
1.Takk...-Sigur Ros
2.Alligator-The National
3.Beauty and The Beat-Edan
4.Fi-Bibio
5.The Campfire Headphase-Boards Of Canada
6.Feels-Animal Collective
7.Human After All-Daft Punk
8.Lullabies to Paralyze-Queens Of The Stone Age
9.Leaders Of The Free World-Elbow
10.Lost-Cool Calm Pete
Thanks Rob! I shall therefore list my whole top 20 here. (Between you and me, I have just listed some songs from 1966 on that thread too!)
My nos 11-20 would have featured:
Natalie Imbruglia:- Shiver
Tony Christie/ Peter Kay:- Is This the Way to Amarillo?
Beverley Knight:- Keep This Fire Burning
Rachel Stevens:- Negotiate With Love
Razorlight:- Somewhere Else
The Coral:- In the Morning
Geri Halliwell:- Desire
David Gray:- The One I Love
Girls Aloud:- Biology
Franz Ferdinand:- Walk Away
With the help of my Decade chart I can deduce my top 6. My nos 7-10 would have included:
McFly:- All About You
Melanie C:- Next Best Superstar
Jack Johnson:- Good People
Rachel Stevens:- I Said Never Again
So, my top 6:
6 U2:- City of Blinding Lights
5 Oasis:- The Importance of Being Idle
4 Gwen Stefani:- Cool
3 Coldplay:- Fix You
2 Magic Numbers:- Love Me Like You
1 Jem:- Just a Ride
I have liked no subsequent year as much. You might be interested to know that Jem's Just a Ride would have been my fave song from a Welsh performer since Mary Hopkin's Those Were the Days in 1968. Eat your heart out Shaking Stevens!
Good to see Jem's 'Just a Ride' getting a mention too. I remember Radio 1 playing that a few times but it disappeared quite quickly. The album it came from was a great one - the singles 'They' and 'Wish I' in particular.
I loved that at the time despite really disliking Justin Timberlake's music. In fact I loved the album that it came from too. The track 'Let's Get Blown' was a particular favourite.
Other faves from 2005 include:
Kate Bush - King of the Mountain
Lucie Silvas - Breathe In
Stereophonics - Dakota
Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
Mylo - In My Arms

Will probably be back to post more later.
I'm a massive fan of basically everything from about 1980 to 2000, but after that I wouldn't say there were any really brilliant years until about 2009 - most of the noughties were a bit of a write-off for me, although I've enjoyed the Guetta/Gaga era of the last few years.
Mainstream pop and dance were pretty terrible and I spent most of the year either listening to old 90s stuff, or then-current hard house and trance in the middle of the night on Radio 1. Saying that it was a great year for indie and a lot of classic rock songs were released, although for me not as much as the year before.
My fave song of '05 was 'Slam' by Pendulum, which blew me away as a 16 year old and still sounds incredible today - and yet it only just sneaked into the top 40 at the time, typical!
I do sadly remember there being a succession of rather naff songs in the middle of the year though like the Crazy Frog, Akon (or, as I called him, Akorn) featuring Pinky & Perky on 'Lonely' and of course, 2005's answer to 'Lady in Red,' James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful.' I hated MVP's 'Rock Ya Body, Mic Check 1,2' as well, which seemed to come on in clubs a lot as did Charlotte Church's 'Crazy Chick.'
Oh, and what was that Daddy Yankee 'Gasolina' thing too? I seem to remember that being pipped to be a #1 here.
However, on the whole I liked 2005.
KT Tunstall - Black Horse and the Cherry Tree
Caesars - Jerk it Out
John Legend - Ordinary People
Inaya Day - Nasty Girl (a pretty good cover of the Vanity 6/Prince track)
Joss Stone - Don't Cha Wanna Ride (I was listening to this on Saturday funnily enough, probably my favourite one of hers)
Black Eyed Peas - Don't Lie
Freemasons - Love on My Mind (yes, it was pretty much a mash of Tina Turner's 'When the Heartache is Over' and Jackie Moore's 'This Time Baby,' but it was a pretty good song and nice to hear somebody picking on two songs that weren't particularly obvious too)
Gwen Stefani - Cool
Franz Ferdinand - Do You Want To
Hard-Fi - Living for the Weekend
I believe it was the first year that Rihanna had a hit too, which is quite scary considering 8 years has passed. I personally thought 'Pon De Replay' was a novelty hit in the same vein as 'Gasolina.'
I liked some of the tracks on the Sigur Rós album 'Takk' too - one of my friends from university was really into them.
I know! It seemed to be a song that a lot of people knew and didn't mind either. I couldn't understand why it didn't chart any higher than #34. It's probably one of the first songs that springs to mind if you mention Pendulum to the average person who was listening to new music in the 2000s.
MVP - Roc Ya Body (Mic Check 1,2) - I never liked it from the start, I think it's an awful and literally 'crap' song (Sorry if I sound old - I'm 19)
James Blunt - You're Beautiful - Vastly over-rated I think and irritating
Katie Melua - The Closest Thing to Crazy - Same as above ^
Songs I liked from 2005:
Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl & Cool
Gorillaz - DARE
Michael Gray - The Weekend
