I really liked the Ron and Hermione relationship in the books. It didn't work in the films because Hermione was too pretty and Ron a bit too laid back. He looked much keener than her, I wasn't convinced.
In the books they are more evenly matched. She outshines him in ability but is not as generally likeable and sociable, She lacks imagination at times and can be a little negative. Remember Ron can be quite amusing and he does get attention from Lavender which suggests that he isn't necessarily less physically attractive than she is.
Am I the only one here that isn't missing the fact that Hermoine was "made" beautiful by JK by the time the Book 4 Triwizard Yule Ball came around. When Draco hexed Hermoine so her teeth grew even larger than normal, she didn#t just get them fixed. she had them shrunk to regular for want of a better size, even though it was a while before her friends noticed. Remember that moment in the book and movie when Harry notices Hermoine in her dress ansd his jaw drops?
I know Emma Watson never had Hermoine's original appearance but for me it proves she was just as right for the role as anyone else.

I wasn't suggesting that Hermione was not good looking - obviously the teeth shrinking improves her appearance. I just got the impression that she was a bit more average. One of those girls that looks ordinary but can look nice when 'done up'. I don't think we can assume that she was a great beauty just averagely attractive.
Ginny on the other hand is referred to as attractive in the books although of course in the films Emma was better looking than Bonnie. I always imagined Ginny to be more like Karen Gillan than Bonnie Wright (who just wasn't right in the part).
I have certainly not moved on I reread all of the books every year. It's other people who are odd and don't seem to want to talk about it anymore, I don't know why
Perhaps because of their popualrity everything that can be said has been said for the moment. It may be that a break may be needed for a new generation of fans to emerge and reignite the conversations, or at least time for people to start looking back in retrospect.
I used to talk about Harry Potter online when there were only a few books but got fed up with the attitude of some people who wouldn't allow any negative opinions going way past just disagreeing with an opinion.
I found that some forums contained borderline acts of bullying at times and not always from younger people and kids.
Just reading Deathly Hallows at the moment. The trio hiding in Grimmauld place. Harry's just kicked Lupin out and sent him.back to Tonks. Not looking for any Wizard who isn't a Death Eater at the moment.
Favourite characters - the Trio, Fred and George Weasley, Remus Lupin, Luna Lovegood
Favourite plot - I guess the whole storyline of the third book with Sirius Black escaping from Azkaban was my favourite. Also liked Order of the Phoenix. God I wanted to slap Umbridge in the face! She is a right old toad.
Not sure about the Ron and Hermione relationship though. I always thought Hermione would end up with Harry as she was always loyal to him and stuck by him even when other people didn't, but some people said she wasn't paired with Harry in the books because they were both Muggle-raised and Harry saw her as a sister. Ron is funny but he comes across as an immature git sometimes. I guess Hermione was right when she said he had the emotional range of a teaspoon

I know that some people wanted Harry and Hermione to be together but personally I never saw anything at all in their relationship that was anything other than a brother / sister type bond.

Some people say this. Yet plenty of people did see a developing romance.
Just like I personally never saw anything romantic in Hermione and ron's fightings. some people saw sexual tension etc I saw nothing of the sort.
I always so something between Ron and Hermione...hate turning into love with aid of Crookshanks and Scabbers .
The jealousy during the Yule Ball when Hermione went with Victor Krum then when Ron went out with Lavender which then leads to Hermione retaliating by going out with Cormac.
They also fall asleep holding hands I think in the 7th book and I think Harry sees something there. Ron also overreacts when something involves Hermione and vice a versa especially when Ron leaves in the last one and she's crying.
The bickering non-stop and the picking on each other...he/she picking on you means they like you concept...well it works in this story!
I wasn't too disappointed with the ending. Quite happy that all three survived, but felt that the epilogue was a bit of a let-down. I was rather hoping that Voldemort would lose, but survive, shorn of all his power now that his horcruxes are no more and banged up in a muggle prison for the murder of Frank Bryce.
Wow that was an excellent idea, damn that is a much better idea. Really impressive.
My favourite plot was the Triwizard Tournament, I liked the structure of that book and all the new characters. Unfortunately that's the point in the series where JK Rowling became too successful for editing and the books became too long, but apart from that I love it.
Professors Lockhart and Slughorn were two of my favourite fleeting characters. Hagrid, Dumbledore and McGonagall are my favourite major but not main characters, and Ron is my favourite main
Lockhart reminded me of Leslie Phillips from Carry On Teachers. A great comedic character. Ron's hate for him was amazing
I agree. Snape's behaviour was absolutely terrible and it's one of the darker aspects of Dumbledore's personality that allowed him to treat Harry the way he did for all those years. Whilst it was understandable, it was not excusable, and I didn't like that Snape was supposedly all forgiven.
Why did Dumbledore allow it, good point? I know he stopped Harry from being expelled by Snape for various reasons plus the spell connections protecting him from Voldemort and the death eaters.
Agree though that apart from that Dumbledore's orientation is not even alluded to, unless you want to make a case for brightly coloured robes, general twinkliness and and a sweet tooth:D
And ultimately I think his character was JK Rowlings finest achievement over the entire series of books. Although perhaps he wasn't explained in that much detail in the books.. I can't recall. But the memory sequence was everything I hoped for.
Agreed, I felt he was never in the books enough when I suppose he actually was!
It was a shame that it was crammed into one book and not something that ran over a few, like Quidditch (I hate that thing) did.
It also IMO helped to develop Hermoine as a character rather than being just a very clever know it all who was good at everything in Hogwarts.
I always skipped the pages on that when it was just about the match rather then what happen during it. The world tournament was decent though.

Umbridge was vile and even worse then Voldemort in some ways as she has a regular appearance or reference to in the book. A fantastic creation and along with Snape are my best characters.
From the moment he staggered to defend Harry with a "He's DOT ALODE! HE'S GOT BE!" with a broken nose, buying Harry a precious few minutes whilst every Death Eater went "Who the hell are you?", I was in love with him
Speaking of Dumbledore being gay. I love the hilariously slightly camp way he introduces himself at Harry's hearing in OotP. 'Witness for the defence Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore' its just the way way he says Brian lol
Probably just me but watching it back now we know just makes me think.
There was quite a bit of campness throughout the HP series. I particularly like McGonagall's bitchy putdowns to Sybill Trelawney at the Christmas dinner, and her owning of Umbridge during Harry's Careers Advice hilarious!
My favourite characters were Hermione, Sirius, McGonagall and Snape.
I disliked the character of Ginny - I found her really annoying for some reason and not much better in the films.
I always imagined that Harry and Hermione would have ended up together and think they would have made a better couple.
Favourite storyline would have to be the 7th book where Harry, Ron and Hermione are on the run.

One of the best things about the early HPs was that Harry wasn't your typical hero. He was short and skinny and wore glasses. Ron was ginger and gangly. Hermione had bushy hair and rabbit teeth. But the 'Hollywood effect' proved too much and by the time the series blew up, JK started to make them all typically attractive.
It's a real shame that the thought of casting an unattractive young female in a starring role was unbearable.

I feel the same, I still love HP but everyone else has moved on. I joined some forums but I hated all the competition to be the BEST Harry Potter fan, plus half of the members hadn't even read the books so I left in disgust

Bonnie is pretty enough but what I would call averagely attractive. Not out of the ordinary though.

eg Abracadabra becomes Avada Kedavra, in itself an analogy to Cadaver.
the Pensieve was a fabulous idea.
very subtle.

was meant to say "not looking good.... " :o

Sometimes the endings are the best to block out aren't they

Classically put, love it

That shocked and unsettled me! But JK did it so well that is was actually a great adventure
