Need help cropping an image

I need just the main object of a photo, not the background. I've tried paint but because the image isn't exactly rectangular, its hard.

I don't have photoshop.

can anyone help?

    Have a go with Paint.Net

    http://www.getpaint.net/

It's free and a pretty decent image editor.

This will do all you want and more: http://www.faststone.org/

(Edit... Sorry - meant the image viewer. I somehow failed to notice the dedicated photo cropper, but the image viewer does all that and is great for browsing large photo collections)

Double click on your photo to open it up.

Right click anywhere on the photo then select Edit > Crop board.

The cropping frame can easily be re-sized by dragging the edges.

You might wish to remember to save the cropped image under a new name, but before you do so, go into the Options menu and choose the quality of the saved image. You can also save it in different formats, for instance, a .tif format will not degrade when/if you make further changes.

You could try http://pixlr.com/editor/. It allows you to edit the image within the web browser.

    GimpShop: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimpshop.mirror/

Gimp with a PhotoShop front-end. Has magic wand tool, which is what you need.

ETA: Paint.net also has a Magic Wand tool so you must've missed it.
