A South Korean heist film. The story takes place during world war 2 but they added some modern pop music which the nightclub singer sings. I didn't find any of the characters interesting and found the film dull.
Duffer [1971]. Directors: Joseph Despins and William Dumaresq
7/10
Weirdest film I've seen since Eraserhead. A young lad in London, living with an older man who sexually abuses him, seeks periods of respite in the arms of a prostitute. When the older man sodomises the young lad (Duffer) with the expressed aim of impregnating him Duffer feels obliged to bring him a snatched baby (or a baby doll - it's not clear which is real and which is fantasy) with tragic consequences. Shot on grainy b/w 16mm with voice-over narration and non-synchronised dialogue.
The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961) 7/10 The end of the world is nigh! You'll recognise some of the extreme weather patterns in this movie to those of today! Rain, fog, drought and so on. In this movie they are less natural events and more man made. A number of simultaneous atomic, (again!), explosions knock the Earth off its axis and sends it spiralling towards the sun. A jaded journalist uncovers the story with the aid of a Met office secretary as the authourities begin to ration the water and the worlds governments come up with a plan to save us all. Like Rocketship XM eleven years earlier, the clever use of a red tint is used in an otherwise B&W movie but this time to give the impression of extreme heat. An intelligent sci-fi movie which does not rely on special effects but rather on characterization and some great dialogue scenes.
Love this movie, terific performance from Leo McKern.
Watched Bourne Legacy at the weekend, not bad, well set up for a 5th movie.
Got tickets booked for viewing new 70mm print of Lawrence of Arabia at the museum of film in Bradford later this month, can't wait and will report back here.
The Moon over the Alley [1976]. Director: Joseph Despins
7/10
Another weird tale from the team of Despins and William Dumaresq (who wrote both this and Duffer). Location-shot musical drama of people in a Notting Hill road facing redevelopment by the borough council. Fantastic perfrmance by Erna May as a German born landlady. A mixture of comic and violent scenes punctuated by songs.
Swamp Shark (2011) 5/10 A mutant armoured shark is accidentally let loose into a swamp where it quickly begins to chomp its way through the local population. A group of people led by a federal agent who is investigating the local sheriff for trafficking in exotic animals and the owner of a local restuarant set off to hunt for the aquatic beast. Along the way they also search for the restuarant owners sister who has sneaked out to party. After rescuing the sister the hunters then pursue the shark as it heads for the local Gator Fest festival! A cheap Jaws knock off which also rips off several similar scenes in that movie the best of which results in a fairly funny injoke regarding the end of that classic. All in all a typical SyFy creature feature!

Great movie and for trivia buffs it has an uncredited role by a young Michael Caine as a policeman.
Lifeforce (1985) 7/10 Vampires, Zombies, spaceships flashy lights and a naked Mathilda May and what have you got? Great fun in the form of Lifeforce! Ok the acting is crap, the film itself isnt the best and yet 1h 51m just fly by! The movie certainly isnt without its faults and seems to have had a troubled production, just read the trivia notes on imdb. The story: A Shuttle discovers an alien spacecraft inside a comet and go to investigate. (Always a bad move!). They find three survivors onboard in suspended animation and bring them to Earth, (Yet another bad move!). Once on Earth the survivors re-animate and soon its realized that the three are vampires that survive by taking the lifeforce from their victims! The female vampire escapes and the chase begins while the two male vampires begin the process of havesting the lifeforce of London's population. All I can say is if Mathilda May were to start collecting lifeforces I'd be first in line!
King kong(2005) 5/10 slow dull and very very long I managed to make and eat dinner and fall asleep and when I awoke it was still only coming up to the end
Jeremiah Johnson (1972) It is the 1830's and a jaded soldier leaves the U.S. Army to become a mountain man in the Rockies. His inexperiance, at first, gets the better of him until he meets up with Bear Claw, another mountain man who teaches the greenhorn the things he needs to know in order to survive. Pretty soon he is befriended by the local Indians and along the way picks up a family of his own and begins to settle down. However once settled a troop of cavalry turn up asking Johnson for help in reaching a group of would be settlers who are in need of help themselves. Johnson agrees to take them but the shortest path leads through an Indian burial ground. After warning the troop about the possible dangers of trespassing upon the holy ground he reluctantly agrees to take them through it, most people would have told them to do one and bogged off back home but not our Jeremiah! He leads them through it without a problem and they reach the stranded settlers soon after. (Although after warning the soldiers about trespassing he inexplicably decides to return home alone that same way!) The Indians who had earlier befreinded him know what he has done and now turn against him and slaughter his family and attempt to chase him down.
Watched it myself last night, I really could not get into it, it was funny in places, but I expected more. It really just seemed little more than a romantic comedy with a sweary bear, didn't go anywhere really..The CGI on Ted was very good though. Shame, I do like Seth Macfarlanes other stuff it cracks me up. No doubt I will get it as a Christmas present from someone so I will probably give it another go, while having a few beers..

By the time the end comes round you're praying that the asteroid heading for earth in the movie is real!!
