as far as i know, all the volume is turned on full on the laptop, and is not muted on the you tube clips. or so it seems.
This is starting to annoy me a tiny bit because I always liked it when the website remembered which level you last had the volume at. Now you've got to fanny on bringing the volume slider right the way up again to the level your ears are comfortable with. If no one's complained about the sound, why the bloody hell did they feel the need to change it for? They just cannot leave anything alone that doesn't need fixed or updated.
I never experienced that. Every time I revisited the site the volume was always at max. But that might be to do with the way I manage cookies.
Agreed, if they needed to change it then half way would have been a decent compromise.
Mine still does on Chrome/Firefox/IE/Opera - so, naturally I'm quite relieved that I haven't got this problem - but why?(not that I want it)
One of the youtube downloader sites had a message on it a few weeks back saying that they
were trying to keep up with changes to youtube almost on a daily basis, so who knows whats changed this time.
In normal browsing mode the level goes to where it was previously.
Are those who have no volume using their browsers 'private' setting?
No. I'm browsing normally when watching YouTube videos. In fact, I never use the private browsing mode.
My channel is all up but when I try log in I keep getting this

They seem to be changing things by the day. I am using firefox and a downloader. Monday it downloaded a youtube in Mp4 360. It opened straight away in Windows media Player. Today when asked to download it again it downloaded it as "file" with nothing showing on the icon. It now claims some unidentified extension. I have told Windows to always allow it to be opened as it brought up an unknown file type security approval screen.Though i have got rid of that, It will play in VLC and WMP and Realplayer but only after going through another pop up message to select something to play it with every time. Youtubes uploaded today on the same channel have the same issue if you download them as Mp 360. The tick box for always play it with this player won't respond, so i am stuck with the pick a player screen popping up every time. If will download it as MP4 720 though, open it straight away, and label it as Mp4 720 with no problem.......
Its getting tiring working out which of youtube, flash, the browser, the downloader , Windows, or the standard it was uploaded to youtube in, has changed to do something different than it did the day before.
Seems to have changed yet again. Now it won't download and open in Mp4 720 or FLV either. One problem earlier htis year was that youtube was usng some format that players were misidentifying as Mp4. Now they seem to be using something thats being identified as youtube format - which can be played by any player but throws something with either downloaders or players or windows so they think its a file they don't know...........
I'm thinking maybe YouTube doesn't want their videos to be downloaded and played in media players on people's computers/laptops. This way, they'll carry on getting the hits on YouTube every time someone wants to see a certain video.
well what ever the reason all is well at the moment. sound has resumed. thanks for helpful advice.
I am baffled by the download problem. Two computers - both with FireFox 24, same flash current version and same version of the downloader - both won't now download Mp4 in 360p, one will, one won't in 720p. I think thats just odd uploads to youtube, or a fault in an update , or something I haven't spotted yet being out of sync with the updates to something else. Thats probably a similar issue to what people are getting with their sound issues too. .Its death by complexity, incompatability and continous small changes.
I think you are right on the download thing. Youtube seems happy to introduce changes that make other firm's players and downloaders not work without laising with them first. Some browsers do the same thing. It not only makes downloading more difficult, and rewatching and advert viewing more necessary - it may also drive people eventually to players and downloaders that came from the same company sources. You make more money from the adverts, and eventually charge when the opposition has no customers as their players don't work.
I am told this is a wider trend, and the future of TV will be the death of the DVD or BlueRay that also records off air. That will force people to use the commercial equivalents of iplayer - and eventually charges will follow to do what you can do now with a DVD player.
