80s Song. Sounds Like Paul McCartney

Sorry to be so vague, but does anyone have a clue about this?

It's a late 70s/early 80s uptempo love song. It is well know that the singer sounds like Macca, but I only found out that it wasn't him (after years of thinking it was) when I heard Steve Wright talking about it recently. I know the song, I love the song, but can I remember the song? No I can't and it's driving me bananas!

Can anyone help, despite my being vaguer than Lindsay Lohan at 3am?

Could it be Andrew Gold? He sang Lonely Boy and the theme to the Golden Girls?

I know I've mistaken songs by Godley & Creme ( Under Your Thumb) and Gilbert O'Sullivan (Alone Again) for Macca.
Maybe one of them? Though possibly I'm the only one to think they sound alike!

Not quite the right era (late 80's).... but always thought Crowded House Fall at your Feet sounded like a Macca type song of that era.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, but I'm afraid none of them are right. I'll keep on racking my brains and as soon as I remember it, I promise to post it here :D

One I always thought was Macca was "Wind of Change" by the Scorpions because the harmonics in the middle part of the chorus

    http://youtu.be/n4RjJKxsamQ?t=1m42s

    sounded very Wings-esque to me.

If you can work out what day Steve Wright played it go to his BBC web page and look at the play list for that day.

Freiheit - Keeping the dream alive.
Always thought that sounded a bit 'thumbsaloft'

Good call, but that's usually played at Christmas.

    Was it this :

Steve Mason - Oh my Lord.

We thought it was Paul McCartney, but I think it's quite a recent song ??

Steve Wright is always doing that - not back announcing songs/artists.

Talking about it or playing it?

How long ago was this? Steve was on holiday last week....

I'm not so sure this is it. Yes, it does sound like Macca in places, but it is such a well known song, that people wouldn't forget the song title and artist in a hurry.

AMAZING! Yes! Though why I thought it was an "uptempo love song" is beyond me :D

    Thankyou so much!

And thanks again to everyone else for their suggestions. I am delighted!

Before this closes, here is the song that sounds a bit like Keeping the Dream Alive in places: Pipes of Peace by Sir Paul McCartney.

I'm actually surprised to find this song actually came out in 1988 according to the Wikki link 5 years after Pipes Of Peace.

Anyway, glad to be of positive help:D
