Dont coaches have "Comfort Stops"?............The Loos in trains are also Disgusting/Freezing/Full of wee & discarded paper after a short time.
And also train seats are reserved, your just as likely to get kids/noise etc on a train.

You're right about the loos in trains but at least on an East Coast train there will be one per coach so you there might be a one that isn't too messed up.

Some train seats are reserved some aren't - the point a coach (or plane for that matter) has a specific maximum passenger capacity. A train doesn't. As for the screaming kids compared with a coach you can always move and walk down to the buffet car or stand in the vestibules looking out the window of the carriage door. In a coach it is the law you must be strapped into your seat.

No airline has a set price, they all rise on demand. No matter whether you book a train or a flight, short notice will still cost you.

Try and book a Ryanair flight at the prices they advertise in the press - it's impossible because they don't tell you about all the add-ons.

I know that, it's possible to get close if you check in online, don't have baggage etc. But people who insist on booking last minute (or have to, I've been in that situation before too) have to accept that it's going to cost more than for people who plan!

Well, I suppose they aren't driving.

Many years ago I used to do the London to Brighton pub crawl regularly by train.
