recovery of video files

Hi all
Can anyone please recommend a good recovery program for PC?
I would like to try and recover some video files that were deleted. I say "try" because I know that it sometimes isn't possible to recover what you have lost.
I stupidly did a web-search for free programs and ended up riddles with spyware and search-bars I didn't want, even though I opted out of the search-bar instillation.
So rather than search the web for junk programs I would like to see what the majority of you recommend.
Many thanks

but if you're typing this from the affected machine every second the machine is running is increasing the chance of the data getting overwritten and you got your probability wrong in that sometimes its possible to recover lost data and data recovery software can't recover data from overwritten areas
I'd recommend using the portable version in this instance, which you can run from a usb stick so you don't have to write anything to your hard disk (potentially overwriting your videos).
I have downloaded Recuva (rcsetup144.exe) to my PC.
Do I now install it onto a memory stick or on my PC?
If not then stop right now as everything you do on that PC reduces the chances of you being able to recover those files.
What you should do is...
On a different PC go here
http://www.piriform.com/recuva/features/portable-version
Download the portable version on that PC and follow the instructions on that page for loading the program onto a USB stick.
The take that USB stick to the PC with the lost video files and plug it in. Then run the Recuva program from the USB stick. DO NOT install anything on the PC with the missing files as you run the risk of overwriting space being used by the files you want to recover.
#1 I got my files back and #2 never assume your files are properly deleted!!
Thanks for all of the advice!!!
That way if the worst happens and you have destroyed the deleted files then you can get them back from the back-up.
Unless you use something to securely delete the file or wipe the free space clean a file is never really deleted. All that happens is that the space it occupies is marked as free in the file system. So another file could potentially be written to that space. That is why you should not use a PC with deleted files you really really want to recover.
Me too! Amazing I thought I had lost all of these by formatting my SD card accidentally.Did not recover all of them but I am amazed that it recovered what it did
Only one real way to make sure your files are never accessed, it is called a crusher. Granted that putting your disk platters though a strong magnetic field may do the job, but not always, it have been proved that data can still be recovered.
Even after formatting a drive you can still get data off, believe me i done it to a drive I formatted and then remembered something was on it I did not want to lose. found the file and then also realised I made a backup of it the day before
