Adrien Brody in The Pianist, stands out as the main one for me, sensational.
Hopkins and Foster for Silence Of The Lambs, two brilliant performances.
Couldn't agree more.
Also, Kathy Bates - Misery.
My final choice is Marissa Tomei for 'My Cousin Vinny'.
I know I'll probably get slated for this, but IMO she gave the best comedic performance of the last 30 years in that film.
She made an average film totally brilliant.
The fact that she stole every scene she was in was very impressive when you consider most of her performance was against Joe Pesci.

I said De Niro for Raging Bull in another thread, didn't seem to go down all that well
Another vote for Charlize Theron as well.
Daniel Day Lewis for My Left Foot
Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight

One of the best movie performances I have ever watched.
