On the 7th September I requested and paid £20.42 for an unlock code for my NOKIA ASHA 300. T-Mobile promised to e-mail the code within 20 days but by 24 days no sign of it. Chase-up call made and was promised it by 4pm today. Still not received it.
How long should it take to get an UL code, I read somewhere recently that it should be provided within 10 days!
Is compensation payable for delays?.
Comments please.

Compensation? I don't think you should be charged in the first place. Vodafone didn't charge me when I got mine. Did you have to pay your contract up or something?
Vodafone and O2 provide unlock codes for free to contract customers (charge for PAYG I believe). EE/T-Mobile/Orange and Three all charge a "handling fee".
and to answer the OP's question - NO you should not have to wait that long. Most networks can provide unlock codes within 7 days.
That's T-Mobile's standard charge for my PAYG account prior to leaving them to move to THREE's (3) 123 PAYG service.
Once I have the UNLOCK CODE, what do I do with it?. I'm assuming I key it into my mobile?. Once unlocked I have been told that I must contact T-Mobile again to get a PAC reference and take the phone to the new provider to buy their SIM card.
In the meantime, do I have to use up my remaining PAYG credit (£2 at present), before or after unlocking the phone?.
Note: I am changing provider from T-Mobile to THREE for my ' urgent only' use PAYG phone because:
T-Mobile call chg = 35p/min ...... THREE call chg = 3p/min
" " Text = 12p ................ " Text = 2p
Now that's got to be good deal
Staff to be 'retrained' to give up-to-date info.:o
Use up any remaining credit . Turn off phone . Insert unregistered SIM for the new network . Switch back on . The phone should then ask for an unlock code , which you then type in and hey presto
I bought mine from Ebay £6.13 emailed to me within 24 hours. I know that's not quite what you want to hear though
To use an ulock code you put a SIM card from a different network into the phone - it will then ask for the code!
Just another 8 days to go B4 I get my code from T-Mobile. Can't believe it takes so long for T-Mobile to get the code from NOKIA!
Is this a world record?
I have now written to TM customer services requesting the UC and financial compensation adding the threat of contacting the Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme (CISAS) / FCS if I do not get a satisfactory response.
95 days since requesting and paying £20.42 fee for UC. No acknowledgement of my letter of complaint to CS after 34 days. >:(
Are T-Mobile staff all total imbeciles?.....:o
I have now made a formal complaint to CISAS requesting they obtain my UC and seek compensation on my behalf.
Watch this space!
GREAT NEWS!... I have now received £200 compensation [Without Predjudice - Out of Court Settlement] from T-Mobile having agreed to withdraw my complaint to CISAS for delaying the provision of an UNLOCK CODE for over 4 months.
Even more amazing is the fact that my Nokia Asha 300 mobile phone was never locked in the first place as it was supplied as an 'upgrade'. However T-Mobile customer services never realised this and as a result they failed to provide the UC for technical/security reasons. This meant that they also had to refund my £20.42 UC fee.
Using a PAC, I have now successfully switched to '3' and I am £200 better off.
I'm really shocked how bad EE are when it comes to unlocking phones. Every single person I know/read about trying to get an unlock code from EE have had to wait months on end despite paying £20.
With Three I got both of my phones unlocked within 2 days and for absolutely free. That's how it should be.
It was no different for Orange waaaay back in the day. I think it took months (and 20 quid) for them to supply a Nokia unlock code. I gave up waiting until one day a random email from a France Telecom address arrived with it in, and followed by an Orange-branded letter. Perhaps it's the same slow process used by EE today.
Unfortunately I couldn't just do it myself, as it was a BB5 phone, and at the time there was no way to generate your own code and there weren't many products aimed at the market stall owner.
I haven't bought a locked phone in years and never plan to. I'd rather save up and buy SIM-free and sort out my own contract anyway.
I buy all my phones SIM free as well.
For my family I usually get phones on contract so Its great to be able to get them unlocked for them.
Have you considered http://www.ovivomobile.com/
Free monthly sim.
Is that possibly to stop box-shifters buying cheap partly subsidsed phones and selling them on eBay etc?
Having to hold stock for 6 months makes that less viable.
I've converted mine to the joys of SIM-free so I don't even have to do that
WOW  , that looks great. will consider it in the future having only just switched to '3'
Thanks
It likely is.
