Sorry if already discussed, I saw an advert outside my local woolies at the weekend advertising a 32" Sony Bravia HDTV for £399.99!!
Anyone else see this, must be a catch?

Looks like they all sold out, I went yesterday and the sign was removed, too late :-(
Only catch I could see is you'd have to be happy with having a silver telly.
It's the bottom of the Sony range, but still a pretty decent set - better than the cheap sets out there.
Hahahaha...
You ARE joking, right?
Philips (NOT Phillips) have the worst reliabilty record of ANY manufacturer out there.
The picture quality is no better than a well calibrated Panasonic or similar.
Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole...
Use your own eyes to judge.
Doesn't stop Samsung M87 being sold by the shed load, and firmware can always be updated, that is the whole reason it exists, to iron out bugs.
And HDTV test quotes:
"Watching the Philips 42PF9831D side by side with our resident Panasonic PH9 and Sharp XD1E, we can say that the Philips is a strong performer at higher colour temperatures from D65.
The Philips gives an above average performance for SD freeview (with Pixel Plus 3 on), fast action sports and HD movies. Despite of our reservations in the Picture Quality department, the Philips 42PF9831D is an impressive set on its own terms and is a welcome addition to any modern household."
Pioneer has reliability issues with cloudy screens, Panasonic has purple snake issues, Samsung has firmware problems, Sony has ghosting and tearing problems.
In fact, name me a manufacturer that hasn't had problems, it happens with products of this nature.
Not saying I would buy a Philips, but I wouldn't class all of them as unreliable and bug ridden.
Just Philips and Samsung seem to have a lot more than everyone else!
Samsung are the largest global supplier of TVs in the world now though (based on revenue) so there are bound to be far more problems with them due to them being the size they are, but the M87 firmware issues are well known (that is what put me off buying one, opting for the Toshiba 42X instead)
I'd go for a SharpLC-42XD1E for watching SD (due to the 100Hz) or wait for the Toshiba 42Z and Sony series.
I'd never buy a Samsung or Philips though, you're just asking for trouble.
I would say that if you can't spend over £500 and don't mind having a silver telly, that would still be a good choice for a set that would be used predominantly for SD. IMO
It's a meaningless question really... Woolworths went under because they had no long-term future in the form they were in circa 2007-08. Even if their demise hadn't been hastened by the late-2008 financial crisis, the fundamental problems with their business model and their (barely) treading water had already led many to comment that they couldn't see any future for the company.
So speculating about what they might have done in 2012 is really just fantasy.
(Emphasis mine).
It's meaningless to talk about "they" (the present-day online "woolworths.co.uk") as if they're the same company as- or even have any connection with- the old Woolworths. They're not.
The only thing they have in common is the name which the new owners bought for its recognition value and slapped on their own website. "They" (the new owners) never owned the old Woolies stores, (*) and we can assume have no intention of opening any.
(*) The parent of the "new" woolworths.co.uk is actually descended from the owner of the former Littlewoods stores... and *they're* all closed too!
