It won't have MP3 or DLNA at launch & those who want to listen to music on the PS4 will have to subscribe to the Sony Unlimited music service. They can f**k right off with that idea, there is no chance in hell that I am going to pay for an album more than once.
Surely most people buying a PS4/Xbox One has a Smart TV, which supports it?
I know loads of people who use it for their PS3 and/or 360.
Sure, current TVs are smart TVs... but how many people are still on non-smart (dumb?) HD TVs?
How often do you upgrade your TV?
I bought my first HD TV in 2006, and my current one in 2009 or 2010. I have no intention of buying another one any time soon, just to get a smart TV or 3D etc.
TVs tend to have a long upgrade cycle, plus once the big jump from SD to HD has been made I think that many people would tend to then stick with what they had for as long as possible... smart isn't the kind of feature that drives upgrades like the initial jump to HD does.
As half my PS3 usage is streaming media so this puts a huge dampener on the next generation for me. I hope things would get better in this area not worse
I am glad I am not buying day one with these systems. Given the level of complaints on the PS Blog I hope a 180 is incoming soon...

The whole no MP3 thing is stupid as well.
I'm the same!!! ... IF the PS4 / X1 can't stream via TVersity then there not worth having imo!!! ... The amount of functions / features that are missing from these systems @ launch is a disgrace!!!
(I've given shopto over £1000 upfront for these piece of shit consoles & I'm seriously regretting it! ... Could have gotten a decent PC & put that in the livingroom instead!)

What's stopping you from cancelling your order and buying a decent pc ?.
A few years ago PS3 got crap for having "too much of a multimedia focus" and "not concentrating on gaming enough", now the reverse happens and everyone loses their ****.
And do bear in mind this is *at launch*, do not be at all surprised if both mp3 and DLNA turn up via firmware on PS4 within a few months.

And that's why local streaming won't be available on future devices, it's to get you to stream music through subscription services to make the device manufacturers, cloud storage providers and associated services who pay to be made available £££'s in subscription fees.
Just be thankful your mobile phones still have storage capacity and haven't gone cloud based like Chromebooks - yet.
I personally don't use these functions as I hook my laptop up to my TV for those services but I do see why people are annoyed that they aren't features that come at launch. However I do think that these features will be added as they only require software updates to add them and not hardware updates so give it time and they will do it. In the meantime people can still use their previous consoles for that presuming people have them and aren't getting rid. I'll be using my PS3 along with my PS4 as there are still games releasing on PS3 that I want to play even though I'll have a PS4.
They have ammended the FAQ slightly, for mp3's it now says underneath, *We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities. Add to that Shuhei's tweets about having a really good discussion with the dev team, and that they are happy to learn people like and use PS3's media features, a change may be on the cards.
One of the sources on gaf said that Sony have reshuffled thier firmware schedule to incorperate these features quicker, he works on a website I think, they seem to trust his info anyway.
Will be very odd if neither feature (DLNA and mp3) is available on Xbone either, given they want it to be the "one box to rule them all".
Personally I have a small, quiet, low-energy PC by my TV for media uses, it's much quieter than a console and takes some of the load off the shoulders of my PS3.

I have been a support of multimedia functionality on consoles since installing XBMC on my Xbox 1. I even like the idea of the TV on Xbox 1 but think its been poorly implemented in its current form.
Hopefully the complaints will get listen to and Sony will reverse this decision. But my excitement for next generation will be massively diminished until somebody actually announces a change in this area.

IF i cancel my orders ill end up with a creditnote ... shopto dont give refunds if u prepay upfront!
(i can still watch my stuff on my laptop ... it just seems absolutely ridiculous that Sony / Microsoft are even considering removing DLNA which 10000s of folk use on a daily basis .... its a major blow IF true!)

You can get refunds from Shopto if you pay up front, I got £430 refunded a few days ago from the X1. Just go to your account and open a ticket with them. It says 70p comes off as a refund charge but I got the full amount back

Don't try and lump in one of the rare Sony's failures with MS
It allows media streaming. A lot of people use it to stream videos from a computer/server/NAS to their console.
I use it a lot on my PS3.
Oh, I used to stream from my PC to Xbox until after about 3 years I realised I could just plug a HDMI straight from my PC to TV.
sorry forgot the question mark on thread title
If its too late to edit you could alert a mod and ask them to add it.

Did you select the High Quality stream option?

Yes I did, but normally use my network av amp to stream flacs from my pc.
