I used to remember watching a programme on C5 about a man and his farm. He would talk to all the animals and it was on at a similar time to Rhubarb and Custard lol.
Good grief what a choice - in my day there was (only) Watch with Mother but it was great - esp. the Woodentops.
Andy Pandy, Muffin the mule, and Bill & Ben the Flowerpot Men.
'The railway children' was serialised in 1951 and 1957.
Circus boy, Champion the wonder horse, and The lone ranger.
The Silver Sword - 1957 - which was brilliant.
Garry Halliday.
Billy Bunter started in 1952 (before the Woodentops, which started in 1955).
Jennings.
Shirley Abicair, with her zither.
I can't believe nobody's mentioned Bodger and Badger yet! That was my favorite programme growing up! (second only perhaps to ChuckleVision). Out of interest does anyone remeber two fairly obscure shows: Hububb and Mr Wymi?

I totally forgot about Chucklevision! That certainly should've been on my list. Oh and I remember Hubbub!!

I remember all of these except Garry Halliday.
There was also an adaptation of the William books, with Dennis Waterman as William. And I recall a programme called Mick and Montmerency, with Charlie Drake. A man called Humphrey Lestoq appeared in a number of programmes I think.
I grew up in the 90s but my mum used to put old tapes on of 60s cartoons, I remember watching The Herbs, and there was this REALLY creepy scene that for whatever reason scared the hell out of me, but it wasn't that weird, just somebody/a herb? crossing a bridge. But the music and everything else just FREAKED me out! I dunno if it was 'the herbs'. It wasn't supposed to be scary, but it just was. I'd love to watch it again

And here for the CBBC:

Scrolling down the list of show titles it does seem that the BBC had the edge - but ITV did have some gems.
