Whether we like it or not, a 'female' Doctor may not be that far away.

I have to say, everytime I here rumours about the Doctor being female I instantly say to myself, NO WAY!, you can't have a female Doctor? it just wouldn't work?. However; I believe this is something we should all prepare ourselves for, try and get used to the idea because I think it's something that will happen in the future, maybe not for the 12th, but certainly sometime after that.

Here are 3 reasons why I think it would work:

1. Susanne Jones (The Doctor's Wife)
2. Alex Kingston (River Song)
3. Catherine Tate (Donna Noble)

I don't think any of these would do it but I do think it shows that a female Doctor has plenty of potential if done right.

If the Doctor was female, I personally would like to see Susanne Jones in the role, just from her performance in 'The Doctor's Wife'. Who would you choose and why?

It would be good to hear all your ideas and opinions on this.

I think it would ONLY be a female if they could get a big name.

    It's Suranne.

An old Northern name, a contraction of Sarah Anne.

I don't think they'd run their ideas past you anyway.

Tom Baker thought that the 5th Doctor was going to be female (1981).

Terry Wogan thought that the ninth doctor might be female (2005).

Just because a lot of people say something doesn't increase or decrease the chances of it happening.

The title does not make it sound like news or to be true.

And, unfortunately for you, the fact you posted in this thread at all means you failed on your mission to not give them a response. :D

Tom said at the press conference announcing his departure that he wished his successor all the best 'who ever he or she may be'. It was a joke when he said it and I bet he still chuckles about it to this day!

If it happened, I'd like to see Miranda Hart in the role. She's funny, but also able to do serious acting at the same time. Plus, I read somewhere on the internet that she is a fan of Doctor Who(can't remember where, though).

Spot on. Making him a woman is just wrong,

It won't happen and your 'evidence' is extremely flimsy at best.

The character is too heavily associated with the general public as a male character.

A female Doctor won't happen and honestly doesn't need to.

Just bring back someone like Romana if there's a need for a female Time Lord.

I had no idea that The Doctor regenerating into a woman would cause so much offence. I'd completely take it in my stride.
