Kirsty Branning - Are the writers pushing her as a future EE icon?

I'm a lapsed EastEnders fan having not watched it regularly since Chrissie Watts reign but I do always tune in around Xmas as they usually have good storylines coming to a head around this time. Having seen Kirsty Branning, I do like the actress Kierston Wareing and think she will be a great asset to the show if written for correctly.

Now I could be reading into things a bit too much but there were a couple of scenes that I've seen where she's had lines reminiscent of previous EE female icons. When she arrived on Christmas Day and was out in the hallway with Max and Tanya, Max tells her "That's enough" and she responds "I haven't even started" much like Pat shouting "I haven't even started" at ex husband Pete when he warned her off when she first arrived in the Vic. Then when Tanya went to see Kirsty in the B&B, Kirsty told her that she wasn't leaving without Max as "That's what I want Tanya. And that is what I'm gonna get". This reminded me of a scene between Kathy and Angie from the 80's where Angie says she's going to fight for Den as "He's still the man I want. And he's the man I'm gonna get".

As I said, this could be purely coincidental given the repetitive nature of EE but I know they have done stuff like this before in the past like having Dennis exhibit characteristics of Den (prior to Den's resurrection) like jumping over the bar, having Stacey dress like Kat and having Pauline act like her mother Lou in order to try and elevate these characters to the same legendary status as their predecessors. Corrie even tried it last year when Michelle and Tracy were fighting in the street and Dennis remarked that it reminded him of his mother (neither Michelle or Tracy are a patch on Elsie Tanner IMO). I do think that Kirsty has potential to be a memorable EE character. She certainly has a look which makes her stand out from the crowd like other EE icons of the past (Angie's big hair, Pat's earrings, Kat's leopard print, Kirsty's lips and hair). I think she also has the acting capability to deal with a variety of storylines if required. What do others think? Also, does anyone know how long she is signed up for? Given her previous film work, I'm wondering will she be around long enough to make a big impact or will she go back to doing films as soon as the opportunity arises?

I certainly think Kirtsy has potential to be a great character, and she is one of the most interesting new characters in years. But 'icon' is pushing it a bit far.

    Icon? Steady on.

The only thing I now about her so far is she's got a fat lip.

She is an attractive character. Max should have more respect for his wife

I can't understand how hot can be looking dirty, having trashy hair, fat lips, overdone eyeliner and some boots. Give a woman the dirty look and she's 'hot.' What the term should be is looking like a filthy sh*g.

I can't make my mind up at the moment as I don't like the storyline. I know it's a different twist on Max and Tanya having problems but it still feels repetitive. I think she could potentially be a good character but I can't help but feel disappointed that she's been introduced as part of a love triangle for Tanya and Max.

And does the square really need another hard faced woman?

Did we get an explanation as to who those guys were, the ones who were chasing Derek?

I give her 18 months before the actress wants to move on.

They were obviously her relatives or something, probably the main guy was her brother. The writers were trying to imply they were after Max for money but clearly looking back now they were obviously trying to get Derek to tell them where Max was. The money side was just Derek telling Max they wanted more money, when clearly they didn't. That was just about Derek scamming Max.

It is way to early to say this surely.
Personally I don't see what all the fuss is about, as others have said

She's definitely a great actress, and I can't make my mind up about the character.
Yes she's perceived as a trashy woman so to speak, but she's not outrightly been bitchy (Apart from when she first met tanya). She's made it clear she doesn't want trouble and wants to be civil about things.

I want Max to be with Tanya but the woman has her reasons for sticking around, she's been treated like dirt for the past year, and wants the man she's in love with.

Seems to be a lot of love for her and also a lot of indifference.

I for one love her. I don't think that she will ever settle down in Walford and we will be lucky to have her for a year maximum unless the writers give her storylines apart from her obsession with Max. Not that I think it's a bad storyline and it certainly has the potential to run for a few months, but unless another dimension is added to the character she won't last long.

I'm in two minds as to what they should do. I think that she'd play the part of psycho bunny boiler really well and it would certainly add some much needed excitement to the show. But if they take that path then they won't know when to stop much like they didn't with Archie and take her to a place where they will have very little choice but to get rid of her. On the other hand she seems like an excellent actress and I'd like her to stay around for a long time, but I'm worried that it would get boring very fast, with them lumbering her with a baby within two years.....
