Thanks to the strip club in GTA V, I've just discovered this song for the first time;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3j2NYZ8FKs

Can't believe I've never heard this 80's classic before now:o
It sounds rather timeless. I see Madonna even sampled the synth hook for her song "Jump":)

I was the same with 'I Ran' by A Flock of Seagulls.

How I missed it the first time around I'll never know.

    I Ran?

What about 'Under the Milky Way' by The Church?

Both songs I missed out on in the 80s

For some reason that did better in the US than in the UK. Hit #2 in the US, #90 in the UK.

There were a bunch of those. Here are a few 80s hits by English bands that did better in the US than in the UK:

Cutting Crew - Died in Your Arms (US #1, UK #4)
General Public - Tenderness (US #27, UK #95)
Talk Talk - It's My Life (US #31, UK #46)

    and a few german/austrian hits:
Peter Schilling - Major Tom (US #14, UK #42)
Falco - Der Kommissar (US #5, UK #47)
Nena - 99 Luftballons (US #2. German version didn't chart in the UK).

    .

I'm not sure why I only found the song after hearing it in the film 'Donnie Darko'.

I either didn't hear it in the 80s or heard it once or twice and for some reason dismissed it.

But as soon as I heard it in the film I loved it.

I think 'West End Girls' is number one on my list of "Great Songs by Artists I Don't Really Like".

    Familiar with these?
    Blue Monday - New Order
    Vienna - Ultravox
    19 - Paul Hardcastle
    Golden Brown - The Stranglers

Couple of less obvious ones, but classics nonetheless (IMO):
    Hey Matthew - Karel Fialka
    Camouflage - Stan Ridgeway

Then there was se a Vida , .... In fact there are too many to mention . Remember in the 80s Scritti Pollitti , look them up if you are too lung to know them , and Curiosity killed the cat !,.

I don't like that this seems to be seen as the Stand out track from them like there some kind of one hit wonder , as a new fan the standard of their music on pop art is incredible

It's featured in GTA V so it's getting a but of a renaissance but it's fantastic and PSB are a great band. Their 80's stuff is absolutely amazing and they have produced many classics

I am old enough to remember it from the first time round. Loved it then, love it now. I also really like the video. If I remember rightly...I am sure East 17 covered it some years later. Not a bad cover but the original surpasses it.

Check out the follow up, (once you get past the annoying advert), which was also rather good, but doesn't get played nearly as much.
