Yes really. If S&S had caught it they would have reported her to the police and she would have got a jail term so why should she get away with it after admitting it in public just because of who she is

Oh for goodness sake, get a grip. Jail term?

No wonder she gets on with Alan Sugar who chose someone to be the Apprentice who dropped out of a course and lied about it on his CV.

Having seen her on Piers Morgan, could anyone be as smug as her about her career, which she left out being interviewed by the police. She also worked for porno kings in her early career and while she doesn't deny this, they were the ones who gave her the football management positions in the first place. She was very fortunate to have it given to her on a plate. She didn't come from nothing, her family had connections which helped her get started.

I don't think she was smug, I really enjoyed the interview. At least she didn't turn on the tears like most of Piers's guests have.

Working for porno kings? So do the players and staff of every football club David Sullivan and David Gold have been involved with then. Shall we say the same about Sam Allardyce and Andy Carroll?

Whether you think the job was 'given to her on a plate' or not, she was a pioneer when it came to women being accepted in the football world. It takes a lot of courage to do that, and I applaud Brady for it.

Seems like a total waste of jail space to me.

If, perhaps, this had caused someone to be in serious harm then ok, but for a job at S&S seems a tad over board.

Maybe harsh but others have been sent to jail for doing so. Laws shouldn't matter who you are, if you are guilty you should be punished in the same way even if that's excessive for the crime

It's only because KB has become so successful that lots of FMs think it's ok. Lying about qualifications isn't acceptable. Think - doctors nurses etc.

    Oh please.

There's a world of difference between telling a fib about a qualification in order to get a job with an ad agency and lying about a medical qualification to get a job as a doctor or nurse. The worst that could happen with S&S would be that you'd be found out and either be disciplined or sacked, but if you lied about your qualifications to practice as a medical professional, someone could die as a result of your lies.

Anyone who lies on their CV is in the wrong. Anyone who lies on their CV and then broadcasts it sets a precedent.
Therefore, lying on CVs and liars in general should never be glorified and I say that as someone who like/d KB.

It's difficult to have respect for a liar, whatever the circumstances. What else will they lie about?

Anyone who claims that they have never told a lie is in my opinion, lying. As for the notion that Karren Brady should be imprisoned for telling a lie on a job application form over 20 years ago, I can't think of a bigger waste of the judicial system's time and resources. As has already been pointed out, this sort of thing was endemic in those days, and clearly S&S aren't bothered about it
and the police are hardly likely to want to pursue a prosecution over something so relatively minor which occurred so long ago. Brady has worked hard to get where she has, and is keen to encourage other women into similar positions. She should be admired for her work ethic, not dragged into the mire over a silly lie that she herself was brave enough to admit to.

    This.

It may be frowned on more these days and you would probably get found out anyway but it was common practice 15/20/25 and more years ago. I've done it, most people I know have done it and we've all gone on to more than prove ourselves in our careers.

I can't condemn someone for blagging their way into an office job which, quite plainly, didn't actually require the degree the asked for. Tbh, I have a friend who used to work for S&S back in the early 90's and I think she lied to get her foot in the door as well.

For a liar she's worked pretty hard since 'the lie' and done well for herself wouldn't you say? Sounds like you liked her before you found out about this little peccadillo, and because of it, you've 'gone off' her. Bit childish, no?

And who exactly is 'glorifying' her?

She worked for Gold and Sullivan before they gave her the managers job and one of these two was an associate of her father.

I agree that working in a male environment is hard, I did it and it is not easy but she was the boss and they had to do as she said, that makes it a lot easier.

I always was disappointed that women who make it to the top have to act like men to get their and have "balls" or agressive tendencies to achieve it. Then to brag about it like her is not a nice side to her, I wish one day that a woman boss shows some class rather than Karen Bradys type of female boss who "kicks ass" and is proud of it.

No, I haven't 'gone off' her at all. She has done very well for herself and good luck to her.

    What's the problem then?

The fact she told a fib, which didn't affect anyone else, and to get so aeriated about it is ridiculous. And yes, you did say this
and I say that as someone who like/d KB.

I had 2 CVs, one hi-lighting my Admin qualifications and employment history and another hi-lighting my Catering qualifications.

I didnt lie but when going for jobs gave the employer the one suited best to the position. One day I told an interviewer this and he went mad and I didnt get the job.

So if Karen actually lied, she really couldnt sack anyone for lying on their CV without being hypocritical if they did the same?

You're probably referring to the time a player shouted 'get your tits out' to KB on the players coach. She had every right to react like she did - it was a total lack of respect.

Believe me, you have to have 'balls' when it comes to working in the football world. In the past, I've worked in the admin section for a non-league club, you wouldn't believe the comments and behaviour I had to put up with.

No problem. I thought this was a discussion!

It could well have affected the other people who applied for the job and didn't get it and the credibility of S&S. I'm simply expressing my opinion and honestly am not in the least 'aeriated' about it! It's quite simply an interesting discussion point!

Yes, I said like/d. I'm probably somewhere in the middle but I can't honestly say I really dislike KB at all. IMHO KB gets too much of a hard time on The Apprentice forum far more than Margaret ever did. I was pleased when the team led by Karren beat Alastair Campbell's team on the Comic Relief edition of The Apprentice. It was most enjoyable to see Campbell and Piers Morgan squirming in the boardroom!

Gilliedew makes an interesting point about different CVs for different jobs. Of course people are going to highlight their experience/education where it fits with a particular job.

Also having read Blondie X's comments about this being more common in the past might well be true. These days employers have to be very careful about who they employ in certain roles. My experience has been to take important certificates for an employer to photocopy and keep on file.

Do you think she should be taken to court over it like some FM's seem to do?

As for Gilliedew's point about tailoring the CV to suit the job, it goes to show you perhaps shouldn't be quite so honest. If they hadn't told an prospective employer, they'd never have been any the wiser, and if Karren Brady hadn't told the Times interviewer about her fib, nobody would have known about that either.

I wouldn't feel right if I got a job through lying or embellishing my CV or application form

Call me old fashioned if you like but honesty is the best policy!!!

Can I just say that at all the job interviews I have had, no one asked to see my certificates of qualifications, therefore making it easy for those who lie about theirs to get away with it.

The rub comes when there just might be one interviewer who does

Why I had a two CVs was because when I went for a Catering job, they thought my qualifications were more on the Admin side and I didnt get it. So it seemed right to tailor it to the job interview type I applied for. I didnt lie or stretch the truth but hi-lighted the relevant experience which applied to the job criteria

I remember being very miffed that that bloke on the Apprentice who didnt finish his course and lied because it was the very same course which I had worked so hard to complete.

BIB I felt the same and Sugar gave him the job! It made a nonsense of the interviews on The Apprentice.

Just to add, for anyone who thinks KB would have gone to jail if S&S had found out about her lie on the CV; as long as she hadn't commited a criminal offence she wouldn't! The only action S&S could take was a civil action if they could find good reason.

Now just a few of her business achievements are listed above, does it REALLY matter that she she said she had a degree when she didn't? I read a lot of CV's and I bet there is at least one lie/exhaggeration in all of them.. She is a very good businesswoman and a great advert for what women can achieve in business, regardless of what she put on her CV

Karren Brady has proven herself a million times over as being an incredible business woman. A piece of paper means nothing. I'm in the position of coming out of a masters degree right now and employers aren't even looking for the piece of paper that qualifies me to do the job, its all practical experience which having been in uni for 4 years no-one has. I wish I'd taken her route at 18.

The jobs I want do require a degree, which I don't have. But you're absolutely bang on about practical experience being absolutely vital.

Saying you had a degree when you had not is a blatant lie.

Yes she has done well but can you inmagine if a surgeon or a nurse lied about a degree to get a job they would be out on their ar-e if found out.
