Cardle sold 70,896 copies of his debut album Letters the first week it was released in 2011, compared to Arthur's 63,996 for his self-titled LP.
"Well, there you go," Cardle told Digital Spy. "Having slagged me and my career off for a year now, the numbers are in and they speak for themselves.
"For some reason, he has repeatedly tried to humiliate me publicly and cement the perception that I have failed, but I've just celebrated the release of my third top 20 album in as many years, two of which I released independently. I'm proud of what I've achieved."
He added: "Like I initially said 12 months ago, I wish him well, I think he is talented and I hope he is still around in 3 years time."
James must be fuming....:D

I love the pictures they used. They look like reaction shots.
Didn't Matt's debut album go Platinum?
Yeah via shipments I think, but I'm not sure if he definitely sold over 300k
doesn't matter. he thought he'd pick a fight and be a ****** to matt needlessly, 100% unprovoked....only for matt to have outsold him! that right there is gold.
made even better by the fact that matt's actually classy about it.
Yes, that may be the case. But it still sold more in its first week than James' effort...oops.
you raise some great points and also had the upper hand in this argument untill your oops comment.:D
I don't think I ever had the upper hand in this argument. The real winner is Matt who seems to have had some success even away from Syco. (I'm not a fan btw):p
im not a huge fan of james arthurs, i find his attitude terrible. i actually much prefer matts attitude and personality, james needs to be carfeull not alienate people.
anyway back to the argument, you wait and see james arthur second and third weeks sales
If he gets one that is.
As its always been known...
Matt Cardle
> James Arthur
if you add all 3 together they just about do:p
you can't knock Cardle for wanting to respond, though you do wonder if he's just a better eduacated version of Arthur. And he might have been wiser to wait a few weeks, not all albums are about 1st week sales, and Arthur still has his XF performance up his sleeve so who knows?
matt may have jumped the gun there but who cares, it's all good entertainment - or it will be soon;)
Ha-ha, good comment and I do wonder if he is going to sell many copies over the next few weeks? Christmas is coming and so many artists are aiming to hit that market.
James could well sell more of his album in the long run, but it's really funny to see him get owned like that by Matt today:D:D:D:p
^^This.
