Will probably give it a try, but not a massive FB user so will have to see.
Interesting that they've gone the Android route rather than the Apple way.

75 quid for a the first basic handset is probably a robbery.
Apple products all day long - you get what you pay for.
HTC 1st is the 'first' handset with Facebook Home which just relies on your home screen being filled with profile pictures as icons rather than apps (he could have used the word 'interfaces' to refrain from plugging Apple..
Zuckerberg and all the other presenters did not perform well.
Got shares, kissed em goodbye last week.
Apparently Facebook home will run on 6 android devices in addition to the HTC first. Three Samsung devices and 3 HTC devices.
I don't think Apple make a phone capable of running it.
Yup, there lies the problem.
Although many years back, I wouldn't have expected Facebook to be a success, yet their numbers keep growing.
I agree its a little cringeworthy, but it is a fairly good looking interface. Definitely not for me, but I could easily understand those very connected teens and twenty somethings going for it in a big way - their lives have a bad habit of revolving around facebook.
Apple products - yup, you get overpriced, good looking, fragile kit that is chronically lacking in interface design flair and has a ridiculously pared down interface (and yes, I have an iPhone 4S).
Facebook subscriber figures
March 2011 - 664,032,460
March 2012 - 835,525,280
Today - 964,599,240
(and there are other figures claiming over 1 billion users)
Adding more than 100 million users in a year. That is not people leaving the platform.
How many are active, non duplicate accounts though?
I would assume they keep their app offering too, as am sure some people won't like Facebook crapping over their phone.
Got admit this seems like it only going be popular among the facebook addicts/stalkers.
I dont understand why it is limited to certain phones?
What stops it being rolled out across the board?
if Facebook is always active then so are the adverts.
It will certainly be a slow creep of adverts, with none at first.
No thanks Mr Suckerturd
Yes, but only available in the U.S
Initially yes, but it is said to roll out elsewhere in the coming weeks
Facebook claim they have 1 billion active users per month.
I had a secondary account for a few months; I have one friend who keeps both a personal and professional page (for his music work). All that matters is the number of people logging on and using the service, which is what they're apparently reporting.
And if they can "convert" even a small percentage of those users over to their wrapper over android, they're going to be doing okay.
I have to agree that Facebook's attempts at an Android app have been pretty poor until very recently.
It was always much slower than just opening a browser and going to the site. I could never work out why it took several seconds to load the app while the website was almost instant on the same phone, with the same connection.
I'd like to see a much longer track record of making a reliable app before I let them mess with my phone to this level (plus I agree with other posters that ads will soon be all over this screen).
"download while the phone is sleeping" = not sleeping but attaching to the network, setting up a data connection and downloading content.
