There's no way anyone could describe these as "best" to be fair
Your selection from UK 1987 definitely isn't the best of anything - it probably would have given us our first nul points at the time!

Doona would have got the same result as The Mullans. "When You Need Me" was the best of a very bad bunch.
"Surfen Multimedia" would have been gimmicky enough to
make it out of the semi stage! Bottom five in the final though.
"Opera on Fire" - gimmicky song though wouldn't as done as well as "Diamond of Light".
"Lion Within" - the writers of this used to write for Duran Duran. The song is very Duran Duran with a hint of Madonna. Top 10 in Brussels. I think if we sent the following two, Johnny make have had a little bit of competition:

Although we still wouldn't have won, I will never get over her fun song, which was loved by the audience and the overwhelming favourite of the judging panel, losing out in the vote to Andy Abraham's dull effort!
The level of surprise and annoyance was most recently replicated by the, in my opinion, bland Andrea Begley beating hot favourite Leah McFall in The Voice.
The Germans had chosen a professor-type in a bow tie (A BOW TIE) in 1992 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKX3e1SqTH0
The Germans had not chosen Stefan Raab but....well, I'm not sure how to describe this. Karaoke? It came last.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqfegqgLLU0
The French had gone COMPLETELY MENTAL in 2000
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WcgQjCDU2g
And finally for today, let's enjoy the massive budget and huge production values of Macedonian television
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-LY0zp-7pI
That's *much* better than Wadde Hadde Doo-doo!
...Sandie Shaw had gone for the song which finished second
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3N9PxnWjdg
...Cliff Richard had taken a LOT of drugs beforehand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGBX2sMOCEU
...Bucks Fizz had been disqualified
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cXcMHrfZf0
....Frances Rufelle had been allowed to represent the UK with the song which *actually won the public vote* (allegedly)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-ggJHy95rg
Cliffie - that song is indeed a tad bizzare.....
Liquid Gold I think still would have won ESC81.
"Sink or Swim" - I am not sure how this would have done. Either 10th like "Lonely Symphony" (imo one of our best entries) or lower.....
I'm going to suggest that "The Sound of the Candyman's Trumpet" is the only time Cliff Richard ever sang a genuinely drugged up anthem for getting off one's tits.......
The Dutch chose "No Goodbyes" by an absolute mile, but second and third place were very, very close. So here are those two runner-ups
"Close Harmony" (a real 'arms around the world' Eurovision classic. Listen out for how many times "harmony" is sung out of tune)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yeaSjjQvLM
"One Step Behind" (not "out of time", or "further" or such. It's what happens when you take Sweden's 1995 entry, give it English lyrics, and then lock it in a small windowless room with a Disney DVD on repeat)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fYD9lpdHN8
As we know, the Maltese national finals are essentially the same people singing every year on some kind of job-sharing rota basis.
This is your friend and mine Fabrizio Faniello, who finished second behind the doughty Claudette
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNNDvB5OkEY
But if the world was turned upside down and inside out, the song which finished last in Malta 2000 could have been their entry. IMAGINE IT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdJFLNt7cys
And finally for today, Ireland.
They chose "Millennium of Love", the most cringeworthy, cliched pile of rubbish in the history of....well, since Italy's winning song in 1990.
But they could have chosen something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5aQs7QGKb4
Okay er....well what about this, this is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8aCEPELK38
Oh suit yourselves, Ireland.
The United Kingdom, then....er...
No, I don't remember this one either
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2g9Wa5B3KU
The Andorrans (ANDORRA!) had a national final. With two songs
This is their entry, sung by the other band in the final. It was far less confusing that I'm making out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQjoFFGkQiU
People forget how bad some entries in Sweden's MF are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vFHpoSX5FQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBClg46LDv8
"The Twins" from the UK - (oh how quickly we forget)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=953u__xgTU8
MNA for Ireland. They finished last. I can't tell this apart from "Et Cetera", so maybe it shouldn't have finished last
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51PZSSpxnp8
This came last in the 2009 Macedonia selection. I think the phrase is "There are no words"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jtev0fFO68U
This came third for Macedonia. Again, "there are no words"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhVEnTBLUPY
Sarah Dawn Finer not doing it for Sweden (again)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uhezzqJsKY
And let's end with Malta, because Malta's national finals are always hilarious in places. Take your pick from this marvellous series of Maltese madness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Nc1JtcUxWU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0LLQ4RYlmc (WARNING - WORST VOICE IN EUROVISION SINCE BELGIUM 2000)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04CrESbtPvA (WARNING - CHEESEIST DUET SINCE MALTA 1991)
Sexy Girls by Evita Magri (Madonna on crack and the song was written by HER DAD!!!)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7kiam_2009-malta-evita-magri-sf-3_music
King by Natasha and Charlene....or should this be "Up" by The Saturdays:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJNvDKM1sHU
Ludwig (2004) and his nan....moaning about the price of fish
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7d3bv_2009-malta-ludwig-galea-fidela-tal_music
Jessica Muscat - HEEEEEEEEY YOUUUUUUUUU - Love...we are not down the market
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJtE_KBnIwk
Oh that's superb! I'd not seen the Ludwig and his nan song before :eek::D:D
There's nothing wrong with Tango! Tango!!
For full fun factor, watch with the sound muted - her dancing is highly amusing, especially at 1:20!
Yugoslavia was on the eve of a civil war in 1991 so perhaps it's not surprising that they sent "Brazil" and had this in second place
Mmm, leather. Feel the burn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=145iTEmtwMg
Another song from 1991 - and this was decided LESS GOOD than Samantha Janus. Just think about that for a minute. This lost to SAMANTHA JANUS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGQw0XezWAo
I can't get enough of Malta, or specifically Rita Pace, who seems to turn up every year. Not a single note is in tune :eek::o:o
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHoZughn-ZE
And now for the "Malta of the East", here's what happens when Latvia tries that little bit too hard. HILARIOUS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmKkFG1QkNI
And from Estonia, two very different "If Only" examples
If only.....Estonia had gone totally mental
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dllo85ZSUk
If only....Estonia had not fallen for the charms of Rockerfella Street
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBlTYhnO7fM

Ireland, 1994. Best backing dancers in Eurovision until Belgium 2013,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iGFGNJHaPs
Albanian is a bit...wordy, isn't it, language wise. Thank heavens for the guitars.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qHceep7SN8
Had Finland chosen this in 1996, would they have pre-qualified?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2CEVh8C_OU
And finally - imagine the UK choosing a song with the words "colonic irrigation". Yep, it's Catherine Porter with "The Aaaaaanswurrrrr" from 2000
