Comet seem to be about done again. I know that for most of us they are useless but it means less competition again. Unless of course someone with a bit of insight buys it...
Just heard about this news after being in Comet earlier today and now very worried.
How do I stand with regards to a large refund I am due back from Comet ( they only did it today ) ......bought £2k's worth of TV's for new house sale which unfortunately has fallen through at the last minute.
Will I actually get the refunded money back into my bank account what with them entering adminstration on Monday apparantly ?
I thought the refunds went directly into your account when they did it....
Not sure how it works......once they have done it, is it job done, i.e. its just the transaction time of it actually hitting your bank ? or is it more to it than that, i.e. it goes through some manual process that may not get completed before it enters adminstration ?
I don't think this will be any great loss to consumers.
Been in many a Comet over the years, the shops have always looked run down, poorly stocked and had staff that looked scruffy and acted quite surly towards the customers.
Just a personal observation but I won't be throwing roses onto my local Comet front step.
I see they were owned by a company called: Opcapita, is this the same company as Capita (TVL etc)?
No, I'm pretty sure they are not connected......They recently bought the Game chain of stores at a bargain price as well.
Capita are a management company (Bloody useless one at that).
I noticed on this evenings news that as usual the staff were the last to be informed of the trouble.....
Hi! All
So wwho has been shooping anywhere where there is a Comet today, and is there a closing down sale on?, I am interested in a DAB hifi which has got a coaxual socket.
I did see one at Comet earlier this year and I am off out to a retail park today but it only has a Sainsbury's, and an Asda Living, and both Sainsbury's and Asda Living as far as I have seen do not sell any hifis with a coaxual socket.
Although as I have said to my Mum and Dad in the past these companies have a cheek still trading know that they are going to be going into administration, I mean if I go and purchase something from Comet it will not be as if the staff will benefit from the administration as the FATCAT bosses and any shareholders will get any money.
As for customers who are owed money for whatever reason and so any money I was to spend I feel bad about, however if there is a closing down sale on then I would be tempted.
Hi! All
just to add to my comment and the website has definitely gone because I looked yesterday after I saw the news of its demise and the website said under maininance, where as today using our search engine[Everyclick] and it just comes up with a list of companies and when I click on C under ABC etc.
Then I click on Comet it come up with the website is no longer working or active, so I would say that it is definitely goodbye to Comet.

You appear to have a strange idea of who gets what money there is - but those two options would be pretty well down the list.
First would be the administrators who charge an obscene amount for their services.

Yep the same ones that made millions from Woolworths demise and didn't listen to some worthy take over bids either, afraid Comets are doomed with them.
The warranty will still be covered by the manufacturer as long as you have a proof of purchase.
Unless it's a 'bought-out warranty' (as Comet have sometimes done) - but usually, even in that case, the manufacturer will accept responsibility for the warranty.
You do however lose most of your legal rights, which are against the retailer.

It's worth noting that if you paid for the goods on credit card however the credit card company are liable to give you a full refund. So you do regain some rights if that was the method of purchase.

Apparently they are 'upgrading' their site.
Of course, you know the banks will be protected...
It will still be OK as it's underwritten by a third-party.

(as long as you can walk out the door with them, and don't expect a warranty)
Otherwise if the stuff is not a bargain, I can't see anyone in their right mind buying from a business that's in administration.

No. Interesting article on Opcapita.
Comet should be the company that targets me as I prefer to buy electrical items in-store, yet they failed.
I'm surprised some of the mobile phone and ISP companies are still in business
