Definitely better than Fifa for me, but after reading a couple of reviews I am slightly concerned about the new game engine suffering from occasional jerkiness.
Plus the goalkeepers as useless as ever.

Will probably buy it though. I can't remember if it was the 2008 or 9 one on the PS3 but that one was the most abysmal shoddy piece of crap. Its been decent since then though.

PES 5 on the PS2 is still the best though.

Locked in with PES, i'll be getting it unless I hear that it's a total lag-fest (the jerkiness), in which case i'll stick with my updated 2013.

The 2008 version was one of the jerkiest games I've ever played on the Pes3.
Going off the review, its just occasional goal mouth busy action that suffers slightly.
The older one if I got the year right, all I had to do was pass the ball and the screen had a fit.

You'd think after all these years, they'd find some way to get some more licensed team names in there. Surely EA don't have a complete lockdown on the premiership and other leagues?

It's a pain having to go in and change "Merseyside Red" to "Liverpool" e.t.c, every time a new PES game comes out.

Apparently there are less licences in this game.

    Lovely

I might leave it a while before getting it then in case they manage to update the smoke patch for it.

They've managed to license Man Utd which makes you wonder why they haven't registered the other 19 premier league teams.

Ive been a fifa player since 2008 and have hated all the PES on this gen (loved them on PS2 and earlier) but think I'll be getting this years PES too, reviews have been great for it (barring the dodgy GameSpot one)

It would be nice to have the Premiership, Championship and Div 1 and 2.
Apart from that and the silly name changes, I will stick with PES over Fifa.
One dodgy review and the rest praising it up, apart from 1 or 2 things.

I have PES 14 and to be honest I am really enjoying it. The gameplay feels different to Fifa and I think that might be playing a part, but it does feel much better than last years effort. Just more polished and fun to play.

As for the license and player names, I will just download PESEDIT which puts all the real names and stuff in, although it doesnt bother me that much as I dont know most player names anyway, so its no biggie for me.

( I am on the PC by the way, although I think 360 had a save file that changed all the names to the real ones, but I could be wrong)

EA are continuing to do everything in their power to stop Konami from having certain lincenses. Konami have even been forced to take out the stadium editor in this edition too.

Also, it's as easy as chips to download an option file that sorts everything. Stick it on a USB, put it in your console and done. Personally it doesn't bother me a great deal, the gameplay is always the most important thing and that's why Konami consistently laugh all over the EA product almost every time. EA are too focused on licensing, presentation and now online to actually focus on the massive amount of problems they have with the actual gameplay. Online has become to popular for Fifa that it masks how horrendous their AI actually is in offline.

Anyway, free day tomorrow so gonna pick this up in the morning. Big balls to make the changes they have, which is implement an entire new engine and change certain aspects of the game. Much different feel to last year, should be a cracking game.

Does anyone know anything about the 11v11 online mode? Is it just random people or can you play with friends like in Fifa clubs?

I owned every PS2 edition of PES but never got into the PS3 ones.

I'll buy PES again once the below are true:

    - You are able to beat defenders down the wing

    - You can shot on target from 20 yards out with power

    - You can put fast balls across the box

    - You can score from headers

I've never had problems scoring from headers and always found shooting from distance more satisfying than Fifa.

I've bought PES 14 this afternoon, hopefully I'll get to play it soon.

i don't know about that asKonami have gone further afield and signed up a couple od South American leagues this year and I think they got a couple of Asian ones aswell judging by what I've seen I've got the game but haven't spent too much time with it yet they've also added the Asian Champions League to the game too

Played a couple of games as Tottenham last night on the PS3 version.
Initial thoughts, good game. Although I had two minor slow downs.Once when scoring and defending. Nothing too dramatic though.
Managed to get Bale, (still there) sent off in both games.

Don't know why, but until I get used to a new version of PES, I feel like I am playing in treacle. Usually takes several games.

Got my copy today, but looks like the server has slowed down as the data update is taking forever....

Can get to about 60% done before I get the "Your console is about to shut down"

Will get there in the end, and looking forward to seeing if they have done much to cut out online cheating such as deliberate lagging and/or constant pausing

The general consensus is that on the pitch at least the game is just pure bliss. I've only played the demo but it is the best PES demo I have ever played. The player animinations/playability factor are just on a scale FIFA "on the rails football" can only dream about. PES is on a totally different level on the pitch, not even a debate.

That said as ever with Konami there are issues. In-game menu's are laggy and tedious to navigate. PS3 users are reporting awful lag online.

And yes, EA have been aggressively buying up licenes...so there are less licensed teams and stadiums. I think a stadium editor was allowed (why wouldn't it be) but they had to take lots of the stadiums out late in the day and didn't have time to rework the editor or something.

Picked up the game yesterday, overall I like the way it is a lot less arcadey than Fifa.

Playing it in regular difficulty setting and if I get space and run towards their keeper, no matter how hard I sprint their defenders always seem to catch me by zooming towards me like heatseekers and touch the ball off me which can be quite frustrating.

Haven't bothered to change any of the team names or update the game as I will mainly be playing Master League and will be buying and selling my way towards my own team. There are a few option file updates that have been released but I'll wait until a more comprehensive one is released.
