anyone else having problems sending mail via via mail.btinternet.com ? - just started getting this problem over the last 8 hours. Inbound e-mail is fine.

I'm going to try again first thing in the morning.
The only way around it at the moment is to either use port 587 with mail.btinternet.com or use smtp.btinternet.com .
You may also find that rebooting your router will give you a new IP address which may also work, as I believe it is on affecting a certain range of address.
However, I've changed over my outgoing mail server to smtp.btinternet.com using outgoing server authentication (BT username and password) and it's all working now.
I'm going to check again tommorow to see if it's cleared and change it back then.

I confirm that changing the outgoing (smtp) address in outlook/thunderbird/outlook express to smtp.btinternet.com fixes the problem.
I can't believe a big company such as bt would change settings which stops the settings they tell you to use on their website working :mad:. Unfortunately that company seems to have been going downhill for a while now .
I'm using mail.btinternet.com without any problems.
I can successfuly telnet to mail.btinternet.com (which is also on 217.146.188.192) from another machine - so it's probably a BT network routing issue that's causing the problem.
Try a traceroute to see how far you get
edit: It's not a problem because I've just changed my parents settings to smtp.btinternet.com and it's all working fine; i'm just curious now.
Tried changing the smtp server address as above - sending then worked. Made a guess and changed the pop3 server address to pop3.btinternet.com - that then worked. But the main account (different PC, same broadband connection, apparently same config) is still working fine on mail.btinternet.com!
Bizarre. I suspect some sort of DNS caching problem.
Ports 25, 465 and 587 don't work, SSL and outgoing authentication have been enabled and yet I'm still receiving the same problem.
Does anybody have any other potential solutions for this please? Many thanks!
