PS3 Slim Noise

I keep reading that people claim their PS3 slim is 'whisper quiet' - mine isn't. I can hear it from the other side of the room, and that's just when it's on downloading!
Is that normal?
Also, if you plan on leaving your PS3 on for say 2 days straight downloading, are you best to remove the disc?
Thanks

When the blu-ray drive failed I got a slim which was a lot quieter but still had an irritating buzz.
However when I play The Last of Us, the fan ramps up to full speed immediately. I've never heard it this loud before. Not sure whether it's normal.
I bought my brother a 2nd generation PS3 for his birthday and regret not keeping it myself it never makes a noise.
I think at the end of the day, it's the luck of the draw. I know loads of people that didn't have one dead pixel on their PSPs. I went through 6 and even the last one had dead pixels so I gave in at that point.
Apparently quieter amd using less power than previous slims - similar power to the current anorexic slim.
The Phat PS3 I also have is normally quiet too (though not quite so much as the slim) but I have known it on occassion spin the fans up to full at which point it is borderline unusable as the noise is so bad, only found the odd game did it, I know LA Noire caused it to do it a lot, annoyed me so much I ended up selling LA Noire on PS3 getting the PC version, which I enjoyed much more, and yes I know PCs are noisy too but at least on the PC the noise level is constant so you get used to it and forget about it after a bit, it was the constant spinning up then down and so on with the PS3 Phat that annoyed me.
