Thornton's getting into his stride now - and he duly takes the second set.

Impressive from the thorn a 130 to finish

A very comfortable evening for Thornton, really. Easy 3-0 win.

Thornton checks out 130 to win the match in straight sets!

That was a really fine performance from the Scot, actually; he averaged 99, took out three ton-plus finishes and gave an admittedly woeful Caris no chance at all.

The first prelim is up next, and I must admit that one of the things I most enjoy about the early stages of the Worlds is seeing all the minnows from around the world face off in these quickfire games - some of which are pretty decent.

Andree Welge has got some previous at the Worlds - I think he beat Wayne Mardle one year.

Edit: That was actually Jyhan Artut; Welge lost in the infamous match when Colin Lloyd punched the board.

Caris's world championships is over practically before it's begun!

Nice straight forward win for the Thorn.

Can't be a nice feeling to be heading for the bus home before the televised prelims have started. :o

Convincing win for Thornton. My money is on van Gerwin this year

This Leung guy looks a capable little player.

Missed doubles might cost Welge here.

This looks like being the first surprise of the tournament, fully expected Welge to get through this one.

POD is probably quietly pleased at that result, reckon he'd have thought Welge could have caused him grief!

Love the new graphics hope sky keep theese for other tournaments but if its just for the worlds I understand but I do like the new look. Lots of traffic chaos out there so that's probably why its not that busy.

Match between 2 players in dire form coming up! Nichos premier league place is as far away now as it was when he joined the PDC!

Wish I'd put the 1st round bonus in the prediction comp as 'which random match will Brissy commentate on in this round' :p

I quite fancy the 11pm Ovens V Hopp or Pietersen match tomorrow night :D

Didn't realise Mark Selby was a darts fan.

Nicholson getting his usual treatment from the crowd.

That'll be well past Hopp's bed time if he makes it past Pietersen! :p

So this is the reason he pulled out of the ptc in Scotland

I see when brissy turned up the morons in the crowd seemed to turn up, did he bring them with him?

Nicholson 2-0 up and largely untroubled by a struggling Stompe in a lacklustre match.

Really impressed by Nicholson's clutch doubling against the boos of the crowd.

The wheels have come off the wagon for Stompe here; it's a shame to see him playing as badly as this, to be honest, and you can't help but wonder if he's heading the same way as his fellow Dutchman Roland Scholten did a few years back.
