Worst PR Disaster - PS3 vs. X1

PS3
* High cost - £425
* Lack of AAA launch titles
* Big franchises lost exclusivity or went multi-plat
* The boomerang controller
* Widely criticised for using rendered videos instead of real gameplay and engines; most infamous of these was the Killzone 2 trailer
* Mixed feedback to system SKU, particularly lack of RAM and the specialised nature of the Cell processor

X1
* Used games controversy
* Internet check-in to play games
* High cost - £419
* Compulsory Kinect camera with rumoured intrusive features
* Massively negative feedback from gamers in comparison to the PS4 reveal

I'd say X1's PR disaster has been worse than Sony's, who despite screwing up royally, still managed to get gamers excited with the potential power of the console and the built-in Blu-Ray drive. The X1 doesn't seem to have that advantage over the PS4.

    Xbox One for me, mainly because the problems they have effect me more than the PS3 did. For me almost everything that they revealed has been a complete disaster.

    It has been a complete PR disaster for Microsoft. It's not just the gaming press but the wider press as well which is even more damaging. It's the idiotic and arrogant quotes from Microsoft executives (especially Don Mattrick and Phil Harrison) and even Major Nelson has been spinning like no tomorrow and becoming argumentative answering serious questions. It's the conflicting reports from many members of their team contradicting each other or simply not knowing or making it up as they go along.

    Even arrogant Sony back in 2006 has been no where near as damaging as Microsoft's PR today.

    Everyday a new interview seems to come out and Microsoft are digging a bigger hole for themselves. Like Mattrick's stating Microsoft is giving the consumers thousands of dollars in value and over delivering. Deluded.

    They are probably on par with each other.

    I wouldn't say the The Boomerang Controller was a PR disaster though, its the one thing Sony did actually listen to their customers about with the release of PS3 (It was certainly a design disaster).

    I actually thought the PS3 boomerang controller was a joke originally when I first saw it.

    Xbox One.

    As stupid and arrogant as Sony were with the PS3, I think MS topped them.

    Sony were right with the BD drive. It did add value to the console and in actual fact did add value to the gaming.

    But despite the PS3 technical package superiority, gamers did not think much of it and went with the 360.

    Can't see Microsoft doing anything like that with X1

    I think the only thing Sony did wrong with the PS3 was to be over ambitious, then expecting people to pay a premium for it.

    MS should have learn something from Sony and the PS3, but I guess not.

    "Infinite power of the cloud" is the new "power of CELL" or "Blast Processing".

    Ps3 wasn't close to being as big a PR disaster as E3 2013 was for MS, it was a cock-up surely, but misguided ambition is a very different beast to actually telling all your customers to "relax and just let it happen".

    You're really clutching at straws with a lot of that PS3 stuff - and I dont think you really know the meaning of PR.

    The main thing that hurt PS3 at launch was its delayed launch compared to the 360. It was always on catchup, but its not hurt it at all in the end.

    With X1 it actually has an 8th of the preorders of the PS4, or something like that, now that is a massive hinderance to the long term sales of the product. Not nearly as bad as the WiiU though.

    Don't think it's clutching at straws at all.

    I bought a PS3 about a year and a half after launch, for the record.
