Your Best Game Soundtrack

My all time best would have to be Sonic The Hedgehog 2, catchy music for each level and the megamix right at the end when you have completed it!

My 2nd best would be Command & Conquer, again nice well made tracks especially made for the game and like Sonic 2 they add the atmosphere to the game which is one of the reasons why this game and Sonic 2 are so popular!

Last of all is Goldeneye for the same reasons.

What would be yours?

:D

Michael Jackson composed some music for Sonic 3 did you know, even though there was a song in Sonic 2 that sounded like a Prince song!

I can't decide between the MGS games, probably Snake Eater has the best soundtrack for me.

But the Tetris tune is a classic!

Final Fantasy VII has the greatest soundtrack to anything, film or game.

    Then, probably Final Fantasy VIII.

Third would probably be Kingdom Hearts.

The soundtrack throughout Uncharted Drake's Fortune is one of the best i think, it fits in with the type of game really well, they got it just right.

Can we exclude video games with licenced music? Otherwise games like GTA/Rock Band/Guitar Hero will just get repeated over and over.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of stuff by Akemi Kimura and Noriyuki Iwadare, who are the guys who did the music for the Phoenix Wright games on the DS (Akemi did Ace Attorney and Justice for All whilst Noriyuki did Trials and Tribulations). Since I've finished all three games now, listening to the music brings back memories of certain cases whilst other tracks still make me laugh, for the DS, the music is very well done in an old video game style but still sounding quite modern and very catchy.

Second on that, you really remember those classic 80's songs, the smog and the generally hot feel of the place.

If I really had to choose it would be Vice City.

Most game soundtracks are shit. GTA IV, GTA III, San Andreas, Saints Row, Saints Row 2, etc. I tend to use my MP3 player instead. That way I get the ultimate soundtrack, no filler crap included, unlike with ingame musical scores.

    I listen to bands like:

    Iron Maiden.
    Testament.
    Pantera.
    Slayer.
    Megadeth.
    Gun Barrel.
    Anthrax.
    Dark Angel.
    Sabaton.
    Pretty Maids.
    Darkseed.
    Swallow The Sun.
    Fields of the Nephilim.
    Ronnie James Dio.
    I Am Ghost.
    Morbid Angel.
    Dark At Dawn.
    Death Angel.
    Nuclear Assault.
    Wolf Cry.
    Annihilator.
    Bal-Sagoth.
    Sentenced.
    PoisonBlack.
    Charon.
    Rawhead Rexx.
    Tad Morose.
    Judas Priest.
    Saxon.
    Obsession.
Iced Earth (Matt Barlow on vocals).
    Metal Church.
    Cannibal Corpse.
    Hammerfall.
    Stratovarius.
    Lost Horizon.
    Helloween.
    Iron Savior.
    Power Quest.
    Jag Panzer.
    Angelwhore.
    Therion.
    Accept.
    Thy Serpent.
    Darkthrone.
    Dark Funeral.
    Cradle Of Filth.
    Brother Cane.
    Dragonforce.
    Manowar.
    Thunderstone.
    Dokken.
    Motley Crue.
    Immortal.
    1349.
    Burzum.
    Dimmu Borgir.
    Behemoth.
    Moonspell.
    Guns n' Roses [of old].
    Witchery.

I loved some of the old Sega Mega Drive soundtracks. My favourites for that era where Sonic 1 & 2, Quackshot, Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, Collumns (for some reason I loved the music in this game :)), Streets of Rage 2, James Pond 2 Operation Robocod and Rolo to the Rescue. There are many more but these are the soundtracks that stick out the most.
My all time favourite GTA soundtrack has to be Vice City as I'm a big fan of 80's music. The soundtrack in Vice City was spot on and beats all the other GTA soundtracks hands down, although the soundtrack for the PSP GTA game Liberty City Stories was also very good.
GTA started the trend for proper licenced soundtracks, it appears many other games are following a similiar line using licenced music in their games. It's good to see but I'd love for a game to have a 60's soundtrack for a change, that would be good to see :)

GTA Vice City for me as well (you can include Vice City Stories as well)

It's a shame there was no custom soundtrack option for GTA IV.
