Hi,I have a Sony Dvd recorder model HDX890,If I select "Signal Check"it seems to be on Channel 48 with a very poor signal, using the left and right controls I move it to Channel 41 and get 100% strength signal,I Don't know how to keep it at that channel,I press System Menu to exit but it's not saved at channel 41 but reverts back to 48,help.

The signal strength display simply shows the relative strength of the six UHF channels (or only 5 if it's not a Freeview HD device) that it has tuned into. It has nothing to do with tuning or selecting a channel. And it is also quite possible for them to have different signal strengths.
Also the signal check probably picks up the UHF channel that the programme the recorder is currently tuned to is on. Easy to check. Try selecting BBC1 then ITV1 and then PickTV and see if the channel number changes when you do a signal check on each.
As Nigel says if the recorder has picked up the wrong set of UHF channels then it is possible that you will see one or more at low strength. If you poke your post code in to here
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/coveragechecker/
and tick the Detailed View box it will show your most likely transmitter. This will list the six UHF channel numbers you should be receiving. You can then compare them with the numbers given in the Signal Check display on your recorder.
If they are different then you can use the Manual Tune option on the recorder's setup menu to manually select the correct UHF channel numbers. Which should (if the digitaluk website has picked the right transmitter) improve reception. If, that is, the problem is picking up the wrong transmitter. If the UHF channel numbers are correct then you have another issue.
NB I say six UHF channels. One of those is the HD channel which only Freeview HD kit can receive. Also only main transmitters and a few relays carry all six. Many relays just carry three. So don't be surprised if your recorder shows less than 6.
