Definitely a legend and favourite in my family. My parents were big fans and I grew up with his music. Rest in peace George.

NO! I love his music so much! He has one of the best voices in music! :( Some of his songs have a permanent space on my ipod.

Also may I add, he was the all time greatest vocalist in country music in the opinions of many including myself.

The 26th of April 2013 will be remembered like the 16th of August, 1977... as the day we lost one of the true greats of music.

R.I.P. a great country legend and ex-husband of Tammy Wynette. He recorded many songs with her too, whole albums in fact.

I have an uncle who actually used to "hang" with George after his shows in Chicago when they were younger because that is where my uncle lived at the time and when I say "hang", I mean do what George was known for back in them days. On April 10th, my uncle lost one of his sisters who happened to be the only grandparent that I had left. She was 91. I am so ready for the month of May to be here because the month of April has been way too death filled and it isn't even over yet. (burying my head)

God bless you and my uncle and George's family always!!!

Sorry to hear it. Big name on the C&W scene, but not sure if that well known outside of it. Probably better known in the USA. RIP GJ.

My father had one of his CDs on in the car today and I mentioned something about it being a tribute but he never knew he had died. It wasn't mentioned on the news or newspapers here at all.

^^^ That is a shame if his passing is not being addressed in your area. The man has been on the radio ever since the mid 1950s. Go here for a list of what went to radio from him.

If he wasn't well known outside the USA, I can't help but be dumbfounded, especially with George being the controversial cat that he was back in the day.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Very well known in the UK by those of jus of a certain age:p
I was not a huge C&W fan but he undoubtedly had a great voice and will be remembered. I am surprised by the lack of interest/response. They don't know what they missed!

I was hooked after hearing him 'live'. Amazing voice, especially on his bass notes.
If you're not familiar and want to hear him at his best, get a 'live' album or anything he recorded in the eighties.
