I noticed lately that horror films always use the same scenes and copy, things such as
1..When they are in a house the lights go out and they get a camera and flash it and we see the flash lights and images of someone or something there
2..When someone rings the bell and they go and stand in the road leaving the door wide open, so then the monster or killer gets inside the house..they come back inside and lock the door again unknown to them that they are inside
3...When being chased they find the cars keys and are rushing to get the engine started, they either drop the keys in a fluster or the engine wont start up, then they have to lock to doors and whoever is after them smashes the windows and kill them anyway
any more

Oh, and so-called friends sneaking up and greeting someone who is obviously terrified by touching them on the shoulder. No one ever does that in real life, or even in other types of film, but they always do it in horror movies.
2. They brush teeth in front of a bathroom mirror. One of these three possible scenarios will happen:
a) they bend down to spit out toothpaste and stand up right and gasp loudly when they see someone standing behind them
b) they open the mirror door for whatever and as they close the door, they gasp when they see someone standing behind them
c) they swipe the steam off the mirror and gasp when someone is standing behind them.
Edit: Orangemaid has already mentioned that one. Sorry.
3. The family dog whines and prances around in nervous excitement when outside a new house or room.
Another one used in The Conjuring!
A couple hear something in the attic. The man decided to go have a look. It's quiet for a bit but then there is a lot of noise and commotion.
In this instance the man is put halfway the bedroom roof by the serial killer.
What does the terrified women do? Does she run downstairs and out of the house?
Nope, she hides in the closet and waits for the killer to come and find her.
As she peeks through the slits in the closet door she sees the killer walk past. She holds her breath to be as quiet as possible.
Is she safe? Is she ****! as the closet door is pulled open and she is dragged out and murdered to death!!!!
Best of all, one scene makes an appearance as an Easter egg in Batchelor Party.
'It's perfectly safe...' BAM.
that one has to be the most copied scene ever .
wonder who did it first .
you could run a mile like that, but the second you stop and look forward again the nutter will be standing a matter of inches in front of you.
Wilhelm scream compilation
"Oh, it's you" turns round and walks back into house.
Slash, slash/ Bang, bang
Also works with fridges. We'll see someone open the fridge door to select something, and when they shut it - BOO! Someone (or something) has appeared in the space previously obscured by the open door.
Another one - a seemingly defeated foe (be it killer, monster or demon) suddenly pops up again immediately before the credits roll.
that's very unlike joss whedon's heroines tbh
Whedon's characters are very emotional creatures. That means they often get hurt, despite their strength.
Also a film where the audience isn't told it's a horror. It'd be a teen musical for the first ten minutes. The opening seen would be in an empty school after class. Some cheerleader would be wandering the halls singing about her aspirations. As she gets to that high note that all thoughs songs have (ie: her most vunrable moment.) someone would jump out a locker and slasher her with a knife.....
