The upload is going up to 12Mb/s in the next stage of the national upgrade, but I imagine that will be next years Crimble Prez from Virmin, as for the ping it varies between 7 and about 18 more recently.
fastest I can get in my area, green with envy at a lot of you guys results lol
Thats about like my parents on ADSL. right on the edge of the exchange area. They switched to Virgin Media
Got 2.7Mbps up and 0.83Mbps up with a 74ms ping just which is very low. Usually I can get 8-10MB down with the odd 11-12 at silly o'clock in the morning. I'm guessing there are crazy numbers of people on at this hour affecting the speed
Really , good news is my exchange is getting FTTC next year so will be on a much better speed!
We are around 7 1/2Km from the exchange, right out on the edge of Sevenoaks. Seems odd that being in a fairly highly densly populated area like SE England you could be considered remote, but we are. It doesnt look likely that we will be upgraded anytime soon, although Infinity is supposed to be available reasonably locally.
I used to get at best about 3.7Mbps up / 0.6Mbps down from Sky Broadband Unlimited. This would appear to be the best possible on my line, at a distance of about 2.5 km from Redcar exchange. The 'promised' figure was 5.5Mbps down! BT quote a range of 3 to 7.5Mbps for my post code, so I suppose it's within that.
However, there were frequent 'drops' so I've changed to Virgin Media which usually runs at about 30Mbps down / just under 2Mbps up (on the up to 30Mbps package) and I'm very happy with it. There hasn't been any loss of service yet, fingers crossed!
Also, the ADSL service caused noise on the phone line, and it's good to be rid of that (before you ask, the filters were fitted correctly).
As for BT Infinity, it seems to be a bit of a lottery as to where it's available. In my area it seems to have been made available on an ad hoc basis in areas which are the most affluent - thus Redcar doesn't have it but less than half the size Guisborough does. Thank goodness for Virgin Media - and they deliver the service through coaxial cable which must be better for speed and reliability than twisted pair phone wire, which I believe is what BT use even for Infinity.

I switched to Talk Talk 10 months ago and went from 6 to 7 with BT to 15 to 18 with TT. And saved £20 a month.
Nice download speed but ouch! at the slow upload speed and poor ping.
It's either you live a long way from the exchange, or that download speed's a lot lower than it should be.

You are about twice as fast as we are. Download 0.97, upload 0.35.

You might get better speed with 3G from Three or T-Mobile.
Check the coverage maps.

TalkTalk 80/20 service. Running a little slow tonight. Usually 75Mb down and 18Mb up.
